Two ways of looking at the world

My hubby and I have had several conversations this week about the two different ways you can look at life.   Your whole life actions, attitudes and relationships are shaped by the view of your choice.  We know people with both view points and I can tell you, it makes a HUGE difference!
The choices are:
       1) You deserve, you are owed
       2) It is a privallage, you are blessed

I'm not sure exactly what got us talking and thinking about this, but I know it is God because he laid it on both of our hearts and then we went to each other to talk about it.  By "American" standards, we aren't that well off.  In fact, we don't have a lot.  However, if you look at the whole world standards we are INCREDIBLY blessed!  We own three vehicles!  By American standards, they are "junkers".  We have a 1993 chevy work truck (with half of its original paint), a 1995 ford station wagon, and a 1993 GMC suburban.  They are all paid off and get us from point a to point b.... with an occasional repair needed, but we have a fantastic mechanic.
From the World at large standpoint it is amazing we even have 1 vehicle of our own when many families in the world could never imagine even owning one.  I don't have to take public transportation with my 4 children to buy groceries.  I don't have to rely on a family member to get me to the doctor's office (which having a quality doctor is another HUGE blessing), I don't have to walk miles a day just to meet our basic needs!

I can turn on a facet in my kitchen and get CLEAN, safe water any time I want.... day or night!!!  I also have hot water any time I want!!!!  There is food in my house, we each have our own beds!!!!!

These things are amazing blessings!!  Things that America takes for granted when a large portion of the world would give up their right arm for them!!

It is amazing how my heart has been singing this week with this realization.  In fact, I almost felt ill when a magazine came in the mail this week...... filled with things I "need", "deserve", and "have to have to be normal"......... HA!!!  What a SCAM!!!!  I am sooooo blessed!!!!

When it comes to relationships, when you don't think that people "owe" you, you don't get offended when they don't live up to "expectations of what you deserve" and you realize when they do give of themselves you are blessed.  You can either choose to live offended with a chip on your shoulder or you can live greatfull,  thankful and appreciative.  (I am NOT talking about living with any form of abuse!!  If you are being abused GET OUT!)

Anyway, just some ramblings from my heart!

I am going to choose to live with an outlook of things/relationships being a privelege and blessing, not a right that I am somehow owed.

Have a great day!

oh isn't this the truth...
I think you could write a whole book on this! There is a great video called "Rich" put out by nooma.com...
it addresses the very thing you wrote about!
very eye opening.

As I read your blog, my heart was saying, "Yes, I am blessed also!" You hit the nail right on the head.
