blessings and challenges!

Crash, boom, lightening flashing, the wind instantly picked up speed!  We had a very bad storm yesterday afternoon.  Fortunetly the older kids were already home from school.  I was in middle of making salsa (on an electric stove).   We hit the basement and the power went out.  Where oh where are the flash lights???  ETHAN!!!!!!  Our four year old can't leave flash lights alone..... thus I buy them and put them up for emergency and then when I need one I can't find one!!!!!!  EEEEK!  The nasty cellar is NOT somewhere you want to be in the pitch black. (note to self:  store some flash lights and batteries down there... I don't think he will go down and find those!!!)  Two hours later the electric company came out.... we had a HUGE tree branch fall on to our power line that goes into the house.  The force of the blow destroyed all of the connecting wires..... the electric company is not responsible for those.  HELP!  Where do we find someone at 6:30 on a Friday night to come out and do repair work in the RAIN????

The blessings:
*No one was hurt... the kids weren't on the bus!

*My hubby made it home within a half hour

*We had a basement to go to

*I knew where my cell phone was and could grab it along with my
control binder as we hit the basement   (having emergency numbers right on hand)

 * After a few phone calls we were able to find someone to fix our
connection to the house.  He had his  two young kids with him (single dad)
and as long as I would watch them he would come out.... no   problem!  He had our end of the problem fixed by 9:30pm and the electric company came back  out   and had our
electric back up by 11 pm!!

    * Once the power was back on we were able to determine that the
computer (was on when the electric  went out)  all other appliances
were FINE!!!!  This is a BIG blessing.... the computer holds all of
our company records!

God is faithful!  Looking back the only thing I wish I would have done differently was (besides the flash light thing) help my children more calmly get to the basement.  They were already crying BEFORE the power went off!!   The storm just got bad sooooo fast!  I was trying to get the stove turned off and get everyones shoes on..... it just was crazy!  I need to be better prepared!!!!  Lesson learned!  Now to get some flashlights to the basement and hidden in the house!

glad you are ok...

We lost power last week as well. A large bolt broke a conductor on our line and right now is in for a repair order. It's gone off again since then, and they said they will fix it, but it will be iffy as far as keeping us powered until then. Apparently the electricity is arc-ing over the broken conductor and causing it to short out. But we are all safe, even after getting zapped in the basement from the sump pump... we're standing in water trying to fix the pump (sometimes it falls cock-eyed and then won't work) and dh touches the housing, also a strike outside and he's shocked, I'm shocked, but we're all ok. Scary, though. And when the electricity went out... we couldn't find a flashlight either... they always get taken out to the barn and never returned! But I have a good supply of candles... finding the matches was a different story. We're using our cellphones for flash lights to find the matches... UGHers... really need to be better prepared.

Warmly,
Melissa

Blessings

Oh it is truly a blessing that the Lord had everything in order that you might know everyone was ok. Though it seems difficult that the tree fell, it can truly be a lesson to be more prepared for other 'storms' in life. May a trial of a different kind that you are not quite so prepared for. (How is your exercise for your faith going?--Bible reading, praying, fasting?) These all cause us to be prepared to weather any kind of a storm.

Praising God with you for His protection! Joan
