Another pondering on the gut wrenching question...part 1

Back to the ultimate gut wrenching question:  (original post and second post)  Do I love motherhood?  I am going to be writing about this for the next couple of days.  This is a VERY loaded question.  It implies I should love motherhood….. Shouldn’t I?  I have spent a considerable  amount of time thinking and praying about this.  I do want to love motherhood.  I love my children and I want to totally enjoy and thrive in this role of being mother.  I desire to wake up each moment excited about another day nurturing and caring for our children.  I want mothering to make life worth living……right?????  Isn’t that what I am supposed to feel and want?  What does God say????

I have done a lot of praying about this and reading the bible.  Yes, of course God values mothering!!  That is a given!  Yes, God wants me to do my best!  Yes, my body was created for the role of mothering!  Yes, God gives me the strength to do this!  Yes, children need mothers and have a lot to learn from them.  God mentions “mother” and “father” MANY times in scripture.  God gives parenting advice and instructions in the Bible. Parenting is IMPORTANT to God.  How I mother will make an impact down the generations!

I really felt drawn to study Proverbs 31 about this.  OH, NO… not the dreaded “perfect” woman!  PLEASE don’t bring HER into this!!!!!!  YIKES, I don’t want to know!!!!  Those were my thoughts as I reached for my Bible.  So, I read those challenging verses… and read them again… and again…. Did I read them right?  I got out my pen and pencil… I counted.  Hmmm this is interesting!!!  These are the roles the “perfect proverbs woman” fills: **Wife   **household manager    **mother   **money earner, and **giver to the needy.  OK…. So here is the breakdown of the number of verses that specifically cover the different roles:  **Wife: 6    **household manager: 5     **mother: 1          **Money earner: 5        ** giver to the needy: 1

Anyone else as surprised as me??????  I again had to do a lot of praying, and I feel that God has shown me some very important things from these verses to apply to my life.  First and foremost….. my most IMPORTANT role in life is that of **WIFE!!!!!  Secondly, I am to be a good **HOUSEHOLD MANAGER.  This role provides for both my husband and children.  This is a CRUCIAL role!  This role provides stability, meets physical needs, and gives a place for the family to rest and spend time together.  This role of home manager fulfills physical and emotional needs in both my husband and children.  To do well in my role as mother and wife I MUST do well in my role as household manager!! WOW!!!  God does care if I do the dishes!!!!!!

I will come back to the rest of the roles tomorrow!!!!!!!  If you get a chance read proverbs 31 and ask God to open your eyes and heart to this *perfect* woman…. Sometimes we don’t like her very much!!!!  (OR is that just me?)

Do I LOVE motherhood?????????????????

Hello!

I just wanted to pass along a link to one of my very favorite homemaking blogs. :) You might already know about it, but it has greatly blessed me.

http://homeliving.blogspot.com/

Growing up with 3 younger brothers and being called "son" a lot - I am just now starting to understand the blessing of femininity and delve deeper into being a wife and mom - and this blog and others are teaching me how to make my home beautiful as well. I always equated feminine with being "sissy", LOL.

I esspecially found the entry for July 27th encouraging when it comes to motherhood. I highly recommend it! :) There are not too many sites that commend young mothers.

Blessings,
Ashley
