Matter of Perception

I purchased several OLD copies of
Mother Earth News Magazines from our
local library book sale last fall.  Last
night I was reading through one and came
across this letter.  The original author is
unknown...

One day a father of a very wealthy family took
his son on a trip to the country with the firm
purpose of showing his son how poor people
can be.

They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm
of what would be considered a very poor family.
On the return from their trip, the father asked his son,
" How was the trip?"
       "It was great, Dad"
"Did you see how poor people can be?"
the father asked.
       "Oh, yeah," aswered the son.
"So what did  you learn from the trip?"
The son answered, "I saw that we have one
dog and they had four.  We have a pool that
reaches to the middle of our garden, and they have
a creek that has no end.  We have imported lanterns
in our garden, and they have the stars at night.
We have a small piece of land to live on, and they
have fields that go beyond our sight.  We have
servants who serve us, but they serve otheres.  We buy
our food, they grow theirs.  We have walls around our
property to protect us; they have friends to protect them."
With this the boy's father was speechless.
Then his son added, "Thanks, Dad, for showing me how
poor we are."

So true! We think we are so rich because of all the material possessions we have - in truth, we are so rich because of all the love we have from those around us.
Thanks for sharing,

Hello neighbor-

I found you on the IN blog page, and I thought I would say hello.
We are near Ft.Wayne -about 20mi or so away.
We are expecting Baby#8 anyday and have homeschooled for the past 13+yrs.

I will tell you I am *not* enjoying the snow and not lookin foward to more cold weather. We had to go out to the barn and 're-weatherize' it for the goats!

Many Blessings to you!
-Jacque
