Well, I'm a little down these past few days. I suffer from depression at times and am on low doses of medication, but sometimes it doesn't help. Depression is very common, but it's something that people don't like to talk about because of the stigma attached to it. I don't care - if my talking about it can help one person, it's totally worth it to me. Depression is genetic in my family. The funny thing about depression is that there seems to be no real reason for it, although it's totally out of our control. We have lots to be thankful for - a beautiful home on acreage, great healthy kids, our own health, beautiful animals and birds that God has entrusted us to care for and much more, so why should we be depressed? If only it were that easy.....
When the fog of depression raises its ugly head, I try to focus on the good things in my life. It is usually a period of time that just requires "getting through" as many fellow sufferers will no doubt agree with.
Anyways, hopefully I'll be back to myself in a day or so.
I went to the Canadian Parrot Symposium this past weekend in Victoria, B.C. It is a beautiful venue and there were lots of great speakers. This was my second year attending. I went with my good birdy friend, Lorraine. It was a good time and we took some of our birds with us, so that made it even better to be able to cuddle with a bird when we went back to the room. Only a parrot person could appreciate that - LOL!
Have a great day and hopefully the fog will lift soon... |
