where does time go?
|
This is a question I have thought of often when putting my two year old to bed. Either I did not spend much time with him or the time I spent could only be considered spare time before nap and bedtime. No wonder he acts bad. He wants my attention and I should be giving it to him easily. But I seem to think I need to bake bread, make preserves without him around and at the end of the day it feels empty. However, I have been thinking of splitting my time with him and the oldest two as a form of a schedule. When the oldest two were both were in trouble with their father he made them out a list in which every 30 minutes of the day they had to complete one task and that started me to think. .....I wonder if it would work for me? See, I have 3 kids all 7 years apart and of course EVERYONE wants a piece of mommy. ( I laugh here because I am thinking of my buddy Marme whom has 11 kids and I don't know EVEN how she did it) We all seem to work quite well in the kitchen together. As long and I can get the little one to help me, he does and claps his hands telling me he's helping which makes me smile. Life should be a bit easier but for some reason it is not. This is where I need to slow down and take a look around and look to my oldest two and think back on how fast they have grown. We only receive one time, no other. So if I take the day like my menus for the week and put down whom gets what time with me and there should be less fussing, less fighting, more loving and surly more giving. I am their only example. I have been praying on this, and this is my answer. Divide the time. Get the older ones started on work, then read stories, play time with the younger one. When the little one is asleep, play pool or card games with the oldest ones. Reinforce the bond with them. They like schedules as it makes them feel completed in a day and in turn, it will make me feel good I have spend a wonderful memory with them. |

thinking outside of oneself....
|
This year, my kids and I are taking the whole month of December off...off from books, study, etc and concentrate more on giving and serving others. Has anyone read No Greater Joy Books from the No Greater Joy website? Wow, these books are amazing! Anyway, back to what I was saying. We are taking the month off for December to cover two things. Giving of the heart, and giving of oneself. We are currently making a list of things we would like to do to serve others. It could include making bread for new neighbors and old, dog treats for their pups, the service industry, people that service others on a continue basis in their field, paying or non-paying services. Last year we did a $5 challenge which was fun and creative. This year it needs to be a service to others. Lately, I purchased for my Christmas/birthday gift a BOSH mixer...oh, I just love that thing! A wonderful Christian lady sold me one from her site http://www.marmeedear.com/store/ Sweet and gentle soul she is. Well, day is dawning...better get going. Son is off with dad going to work for half a day. Still have two more at home. Hope all have a very happy and yummy bird. Lisa |

Happ, happy new year to ya'll!
|
Wow... a whole new year! Can't believe it myself. As of today I have been asked to join about four different groups over this past year. A really nice lady asked me to join up with hers as well. Not sure if I would be much help. I am having a hard time keeping up with the others. But have to admit, it is nice to feel wanted. :o) Gosh, I do have to clue you ladies in on this one group, gosh, golly the ladies are so darn sweet. It is from a website I found my accident. Honestly, I don't remember how I found her in general. Her name is Marmee. And she has this great site called Marmeedear.com. She has a group and talk about some of the nicest people I have ever meet... well, other than here that is! Not a wine post anywhere, only positive helpful Christian ladies.... you ask a question and BOOM... you get between 4 or 9 emails to help! Marmee is getting rules set up so we can help each other and keep our spirits high. Each day is dedicated to something. ie monday school lessons or Friday cleaning. Each day has a different chore we ladies do or bless each other with. We share what makes life a bit easier or a bit more bearable with kids, husband, cooking, gardening, sewing...gosh, etc, etc.... ( i can only sew a button on) grin... These ladies love the good Lord and it shows in their post, their writtings to each other, their playfulness, humor, and love for each other. As of right now, Marm is taking a well deserved break and will not be back on the puter for a couple of days. Hope she won't be to backlogged! Well, it is getting late. House is coming along great. will have to get pictures for some of you that asked. Wow, that brick my hubby picked out is dark!!! whoa! I WILL promise once I get moved in to work on my mini forest ( yeah, the one they half way moved down...oh such heartache) BUT I see a challenge! A slow one maybe... but something that can be improved upon. Like myself this year. Any one have some new things to try out for the new year? ![]() ![]() love you all, lisa |

oh dear.........
As some of you know, we are currently building a home. If some of you remember, I spoke of a little mini forest that I have in the front yard. So Charming!! Well a couple of weeks ago they MOWED through my mini forest! Ugh I was so heartbroken! Right through the middle! Oh I could have died! I am now kicking myself for not taking a picture of this tree I spoke of in my other blog. But some good news. We do get two trees that will be placed in the front... you don't have to GUESS where they will be will you? That'''''''s right, in that same stop those alwful men mowed down. Then from out of the blue, my mom said she would pay for some land scaping. Well, honestly I don't know how much of a budget she will allow. But I am hoping for at LEAST one more tree.... (gee, do I like t rees or what?) We have been checking on our house. Gosh, it seems so big...but well, we have one more kid... and my hubby HAS to have a game room.. Never thought 'd would be do this again...building a house and all. I feel so grateful in my heart at times it is almost overwhelming. Nice neighborhood, pool, friendly neighbors. It just feels good when you look all about you. We are on a bit of a hill. So the view is wonderful. And it still feels like country too. It is a nice subdiivsion that sits back from the road. Well, turkey day has worn me out. Happy Blogging! lisa texas |

hello friend
|
I hope this day finds you cheerful and full of gladness. I just got off a blog talking about swishy skirts. I admit, I like them too. I have two long swishy skirts myself. Chirstmas is coming soon. I am excited about giving my $5 gift to my family. This should be something special. Hubby is still against it though. We don't spend much during the year so Christmas and birthdays tend to be a bit special. Since I came from this blog talking about what others find beautiful. I will ask a question along those lines. What do you find beautiful in others? Can be perfect strangers, family, friends, anyone. Here 'll get us started.....What I find beautiful is something I read recently in my Readers Digest for December. It was under Real-Life miracles. My favorite was After Katrina. It was about a man named Blake Bailey. He and his family moved to New Orleans just two months before Katrina came. Lost everything....They were begaining their fight with insurance companies, banks and FEMA without documetns that were lost in the flood. He had taken his car to an auto body shop to get the AC fixed. Well, after the mechanic told him it would cost about the same as Blue Book of the car Mr. Bailey thought he would cut his loosses. The office employee was writing up the labor and she noticed that he was from Louisiana. She ask if he was from New Orleans. Yes was the reply. No charge said she and continued to shake her head after he took out his wallet. Mr. Bailey went in for a haircut, same thing happen. After a lease expired on an aptment they had been living in Fl they tried to find a rental house they could afford so they could still pay on their morgage on a house they no long had. They looked everywhere. Mr. Bailey thought he would have to live in drastcially reduced circumstances for a time when he received an email from a James Kennedy in California. (Bailey was a writer) and Mr. Kennedy had recently read some pieces that Mr. Bailey had written. Mr. Kennedy wanted to give Mr. Bailey a new house (no strings attacted) in Mandeville, Louisiana. This is not a scam wrote Mr. Kennedy. Mr. Bailey was thinking this is to good to be true but replied thanking him but had not plans on moving back. Around the same time a poet at the Universsity of FL offered to rent them a Victorian home he owned. When though the rent was far less than some of the *awful hovels* they had looked at but still a burden for pay. Mr. Bailey offhandly mentioned the poets offer to Mr. Kennedy and the next day he FedEXed a check covering rent for eight months. Mr. Bailey writes.... Throughout this ordeal, the kindess of strangers has done much to restore my faith in humanity. It's almost worth losing your worldy posessions. Indeed, it's not a bad thing to start life over from scrathch with that knowledge in mind. Please share....What do you find beautiful in others and why.... ![]() |

beautiful day!
It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood......a beautiful day in the beightborhood...you will do time, in a salt mine....you will do slave labor... oops... wrong song....... ![]() Well, its Friday people! Oh joy shall be shared! As usually, I could not wait to give my hubby his birthday present. I watched a show called Made in America and they showed some Kentuky burbon called Maker's Mark they make here in the states. So I purchased some for him. It is to be very smooth for a drink. So I allowed him to open it and needless to say he was excited and eager to try it. The first thing I ask if it was smooth. He offered the glass to me and I took a very small sip. With a cough and a grin and I told him that it was smooth. ( yeah, can't you tell I drink?) He thanked me for the rest of the night and told me he would be saving it for his birthday brisket he plans on cooking. The kids are purchasing a small quanity of Godiva chocolate pumkins that are seasonal. (no, can't go there like we use to) My mom is coming for my husband's birthday. (she just loves him. and to her he does no wrong) oh you will love this. She is wanting the '07 Highlander. I told her she could get a '06 on sale... but NOOOOOOO.. she wants a new one. Oh, the kids and I are going to a Texas Wifelife Expo here in Austin tomorrow. This should be fun. Daddy is staying home with the littlest memeber of our family as he does not like crowds. ~me |

our new subdivision has trees!
In our new sub there are alot of young tree growing. In FACT in our *to be* front yard is a young tree growing. It has fallen over but has won the good fight in living. It is laid on the ground but the *branches* have grown into small trees. It is very intresting to see. I will have to take a picture of it so everyone can enjoy what I am talking about. Even hubby said, "gez, lis, if this tree worked this hard to live and grow, just leave it alone." I will gladly clear the other weeds around it. Maybe a few sapplings around it. Not sure just quite yet. It would make an intresting add in to our front yard as ours is the only house that has this small cluster of trees growing about the fallen one. Maybe 'll just clean it up a bit and give the small trees a chance. It would certainly act as a *block* from the evening sun. It is almost like a miniture woods being so sweet and all. The only tree my hubby says HAS to go is the Cedar. He hates it. (it's in the backyard) But he said I can have all the others. *fine with me* I plan on planting fast growing trees within my fence line for privacy. They are to grow 3-5 feet a year. I think that allows for plenty of privacy. Well, that is about all for now. I'll try and be good and post more. love you all....... lisa |

Hey all.....
|
Been busy, busy, busy... oh by the way... did I mention busy? BTW Thanks for all of your replies on my past posts! Just started my kids back on their lessons. We have been off and on... off and on with lessons since our move from Baton Rouge. ( well, been busy with a new baby too... go fig) Have some of you kind ladies taken some of hill billy house wife recipes? Wow, some are just wonderful! Some tried and ugh... but on the most part. I do like them. Had lunch with daddy-o today. We also fed the sharks (aka fish in the small pond where my hubby works at) They (fish) attack anything that goes into the water and I do mean everything! They will actually jump out and grab your finger if you wiggle it close enough to the water's edge! It reminds me of the geese out in Baton Rouge where hubby worked out. Anyone with a sack lunch was fair game! The funny thing is. They were not rude either, they would wait their turn for you to throw something their way. Noisy suckers too! Going to try to can somemore peaches Friday. I HAVE to do them. I just pray they are still good. ![]() Weather has been wonderful here. Nice and cool. The door was open, the flies came in to stay... etc, etc, etc. Sorry. don't feel much like talkn today. Guess 'm tired. Anyway, that has been my day. |

Restoring Lives in Louisiana
|
Just finished reading Louisana NOW. The United methodist church newsletter that I receive from Baton Rouge. It was nice to read about things still going on in New Orleans, survivors receiving help, rebuilding homes and lives, t-shirt sales support storm recovery, a dvd the will keep the story alive, Katrina Church Recovery Appeal, and free grief workshop that helps survivors. Oh it is still so heartrenching. We were in Baton Rouge of the time of Katrina and Rita. We have never been so scared in our whole lives watching as Katrina moved in hour by hour. We fled on a early Sunday morning but came back just in time for Rita to show her ugly face. We were on the nasty side of her. Winds outside never sounded so spooking in the quiet subdivistion we lived in. My seven year old still gets nervous if some one meantions Katrina. (he was 6 at the time when it happen and has not forgotten it) Even though the anniversay has slipped by, it still tears me up to see people hurting. I could not image losing everything. But when we still lived there someone that visited my little church from New Orleans had. She looked so broken but remained cheerful. My heart went out to her many times. But now I can happly report the last time I had checked in on her she was quite settled in Baton Rouge and loved it. And oh yeah, Baton Rouge has grown too. Traffic was worst after we left. So many people poured in. Baton Rouge had a hard time keep up with extra kids in the schools, people trying to get jobs just to stay there, shelters overflowing, etc. Not to mention Houston. Anyway, if you want to help. I have a website and an email for those who would like to send a note or a donation. stormrelief@bellsouth.net www.laumcstormrelief.com The United Methodist Church 141 N. 6th Street Baton Rouge, La 70802 225-346-5193 Have a wonderful weekend.... ![]() |

another beautiful day
|
Hello from Leander, Texas. My oldest is biting at the bit to get donuts this morning. hee hee. Our Scotty dog got out yesterday. Thankfully, the animal control found him and were so nice to let us know where he was. I was told by the officer most of the ladies in the office were ready to adopt him on the spot. She told them to, "Back off, he has an owner"....lol So we need to get them registered in our new town within the next 10 days. (no problem there) We will be glad to!! It was a slow day yesterday. I gave the kids a needed break from their studies. They had worked so hard Monday when the dryer broke getting the clothes out of the wash and hanging them to dry. I actually begged my husband to NOT purchase a dryer right away. (yeah, strange right?) heehee We actually like hanging laundry and the kids enjoy their clothes coming back inside smelling so fresh. (It is plenty hot here and takes no time at all for them to dry) Well, I am being reminded about donuts... I better get ready...thanks for reading...~me |

still learning..Christmas is on the way........
|
Hi Ho, surfercajun here. Have not been on in a while. Thank you all for your sweet and encouraging posts!! Canned some pears Thursday. They did not turn to bad. The peaches that my daughter and I did turned out great! Actually found a recipe for cooking the pits to the peaches to make another perserve. (waste not want not...just to bad I did not keep the pits! LOL) We are doing a challenge this year for Christmas. We are spending $5 on each person. We will each get 20.00 There are four of us, well five counting the baby. So say I have 20. I can spend $5 on each person with a little extra. Hubby, son, and daughter... 5, 10, 15. The extra five could cover taxes or be divided between the three. My middle child suggested that we each spend $10 for the baby since he was new and did not know the rules. So far so good. My daughter found a nice 3.99 frame at GoodWill in which I made a collage for my middle son of all his baby pitures. For my daughter I found a nice recipe box for .59 and am placing recipes inside from me and my mom. also found her a nice panda mug ( loves the pandas) for .99. And to top it off, thus far I found a recipe for mixing hot cocoa mix using dry milk powder. (and that was free) *grin* Have hubby left but I think I have him covered. He loves that game that is wild in Japan right now with the number in a box. Sudoku I think is what it is called. All that would leave is the stockings and we get to spend 20 each for that. I think that makes $360 (rougly) for what we are spending on for Christmas for a family of five. I bet some of you women out there could and would do better than that number and on a larger family! Hubby is wanting to buck the system and spend more. I think we should stick to the spirit of the game and choose thoughful gifts instead. Even a bag of sugar on sale with a thoughtful note is fair game! The kids are having a great time with figuring out what they can get out of their money. Even my middle child has figured out something his sister is wanting that is less than $5. This should be intresting when Christmas DOES come. LOL I'll keep you posted after Christmas on the gifts. Thought maybe my mom would like to join in. But no, the ole' gal is set in her ways. ( and I am NOT going to be the one to move her) LOL Still trying to find a church home. I tend to get a little depressed trying to find one. I need to keep learning patience and know that one day, the right fit will come. Just want an old fashion church singing from the hymns. Presbyterian church or a bible church. Hope I am not asking to much. My hubby and the *boys* are on one side of the room saying they are on the cool side and us girls are on the loser side of the room. lol (whatever) Purchased some new chairs from Ashley furniture Friday night. ( know this seems silly) but I am very excited! They are dinning room chairs that have a flair of southwest on it. So cool! Our old chairs have been with us 16 years now. (they did not quite make the move out to Texas) Other than that...we celebrated 17 years of marriage yesterday!!! Thanks for reading.....lisa |
