Chicks Moved Out

8:29 PM, Saturday, July 5, 2008 .. Posted in Chickens .. 3 comments .. Link

The chicks are very happy in their new home.  Three of them are 7 weeks old and the other two are 5 weeks old.  I set them up a spot in the storage side of the chicken coop, separate from the adults.  They have about 20 square feet in there.  I hooked up a light for them with a 60 watt bulb - mostly for light, but the heat will help at night when it gets cooler.  The temperature outside today was about 64 degrees, so they didn't really need the extra heat during the day.  That side of the coop only gets light through the little window in the door, so the extra light will be good.

Making progress on the fence for the chickens.  Yesterday I dug two holes and today I dug 1 1/2 holes.  That leaves just 4 1/2 holes left.  I bought all the lumber for the fence and began staining it today too.  I will feel good when the fence is finished - see all those big rocks I've been digging out?!

goodness, all those rocks look like the stuff from a hole I have dug on my property! I guess that is why this area was never farmed!

"Is this the chicken lady?" he asked lacking tact....

I have talked about you to my husband for weeks. I was describing this "crazy" (I use that term affectionately) lady on the blog site who is so busy, I don't know how on earth she has time to breathe! I told him that I think you may be part robotic. Last night, he finally had an opportunity to see all the pictures you have posted and all the progress you have made. When he could see the concrete evidence of what one could actually build and do, his interest level grew tenfold. He was very impressed. Love what you've done with the chicken house. Keep up the great work.
