Swag bucks!!In my quest to earn money online, I have come across a new program! I learned about it from Money Saving Mom today. So, if you're interested in learning more about Swag Bucks, or want to sign up, visit Swag Bucks today!! The mourning after....The election is over...and I will admit, I felt sick most of the day yesterday. I went to bed feeling sick as I watched the electoral votes stacking up on Obama's side. I had trouble sleeping, with visions of all that his election would mean. When we woke Wednesday morning, we turned the tv on to see Oprah rejoicing in her candidate...and we knew the worst had happened. During the day yesterday, I went through a range of emotions. The overwhelming one was fear. Fear for our nation, for our freedoms, for our future, for our children's future. Sadness, sorrow and discontentment were pretty prevalant as well. How did Obama win? How did this happen? The countless stories of his associations with terrorists, his anti-freedoms stances, his mentality that a babe is a punishment, his religious attachments, his questioned citizenship, his inability to pass the test to even be on his own secret service staff....all things that should have stopped him from even being nominated to run for president. Yet, he won. Why? My thoughts? Things like "We hate Bush", "He'll end the war", "He'll fix the economy", "He'll fix the stock market".....etc......and the folks who sit on the couch visiting the "church of Oprah", The View and all the other ridiculous talk shows. The colleges where the evolutionist and liberal ideas are shoved down the students' throats. The media who downplayed and were silent on so many of Obama's faults. Many folks voted on one thing...and completely forgot anything else. The economy, their retirement, the war, the whatever. As if pulling completely out of Iraq is the answer. No, I don't know what the answer is...but we do have enemies there....and they are rejoicing in Obama's win. Doesn't that scare you just a bit? How about the fact that he promised to sign two really bad pieces of paper? The so called Freedom of Choice Act...which is really no "choice" at all. How many more millions of babes will be killed in their Mother's wombs at the altar of "it's my body" mentality? How about the UN Treaty on the Rights of the Child? Wow...that's a smart one...let's allow our United States to be controlled by the UN. Let's allow this treaty to surpass our own Constitution. Let's allow children to decide what's best for them. Let's not allow a parent to make any choices for their child. Sure...I have a 5 year old who is incredibly smart, but she still needs two parents to help her learn and grow. I even have a 15 year old who I feel is more mature and responsible than many adults. Yet, she's not ready either to make her own choices. There's a reason a babe is born to two parents. There's a reason they are not considered adults until the age of 21. The thought of babies killed for the sake of convenience, the homosexual agenda being taught to children, the freedom to own a gun no longer yours, the freedom for churches to speak the Word (example...in defense of traditional gender roles), the freedom of choice in education...and oh so many others....but, hey, as long as your stocks are rolling in, who cares about these other terrible things. I believe that nothing happens without God either inspiring it or allowing it. I kept questioning God...why? Why did you allow this, for I know you didn't inspire it. It took all day, but I think I finally found my answer. God wants His people to rely fully on Him. In times of trial, danger and fear, we call on His name with a sense of urgency. We know that we can do nothing without His intervention. We know that He is the ONLY answer to our strife. In my own life, this has surely proven to be true. The biggest example of this was the loss of our babe last year. We had no answer. There was no "this is what happened and why your babe has died". It was an awful time, yet we relied on and rested in the knowledge that God was our comforter. We came away a stronger couple, a stronger family and stronger followers of Christ. We came to our "bottom" and had to ask God to pull us back up. And He did so. I still cry when I think of our babe....and probably always will. (No, I don't need "counseling", I need to remember our babe and our loss. Just as a person does when they lose a loved one. I also cry at the thought of my sweet Aunt Di. She's been with Jesus for over 13 years now..yet I still cry.) I believe we, as a nation, have turned so far away from our Lord. Oh, we have plenty of Christians, but how many are actually followers of Christ? We believe in God, but do we believe God? We say He's there, but do we trust Him to see us through our struggles? We profess to follow His word, but do we stay married to our husbands? We say He is our provider, but do we allow Him to reign in our lives and give us all the blessings (namely, children) that He desires us to have? Do we take his 10 Commandments literally? Do we repent of our daily sins and turn away from those wicked ways? Are we completely honest, even if it hurts? Do we set an example to our children of the wonderful life of marriage? Do we raise our children to know that God is their creator? Do we truly rely fully on His protection? No, sadly, we don't. And I'm including myself in some of those... God wants a people who want HIM. He could have created us to be followers of His, with no other choice. But, He wanted us to CHOOSE Him. To say no to the world and follow Him. Sure, it's easy to get caught up in all the world has to offer...and some of it is even good. But, when it becomes our god, it's not right. I believe that we have allowed the world to become our god. And God is waiting patiently for us to return. If the election of Obama doesn't make Christians cringe, I don't know what else would. I believe that God is calling us. To turn to Him, to repent of our selfish ways, to trust in Him, to pray to Him, to fully rest in Him. I do believe He is sovereign and for His own reasons, He allowed this man to be elected to be our president. I'm drawn to stories in the Bible telling of oppressive leaders, terrible living conditions and such. And seeing how the hand of God led them through those times. I know that He still reigns and He is still on the throne...and that God is in control. I leave you with this most awesome of songs by Twila Paris. It was a favorite of mine long ago when I first heard it...but seems even more fitting today...
Scary....I have no clue how anyone could see the following video and still support Obama.... Scary thoughts before the election..This is a long read...but incredibly important to do so.... Please take the time to read the following....
Dear Home Education Leaders,
Normally, HEF does not openly supporting a political campaign. I let home schoolers know which candidates have been or do support their right to home educated their children. However, I am stepping out a little more than usual because I think home schoolers need to consider a very important isse that may directly affect them.
Whoever wins the White House could detemine whether we continue to enjoy the freedom to home educate our children or not. If the Democrats take the US Senate and the White House, one of the first things they will most likely do is to ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. President Clinton, actually signed it, but did not take it to the Senate because the Democrats did not have the majority at that time needed to pass it. However, if during the upcoming election, the Democratic party takes control of both the US Senate and the White House, it will most likely pass. Some news reporters are saying that Republicans may not win enough seats in the US Senate to even filibuster.
This is the greatest single threat to home education we have ever faced in this country. The teacher's unions pour millions of dollars into Democratic campaigns and as you know the Unions do not like home schooling. In fact, their platform usually has a plank opposing home education or requiring parents to be certified teachers. I have never used fear to motivate people and I am not doing it now. I am just reporting the facts.
Go to www.hslda.org, type in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and read until you are convinced this is a serious threat. If you are not sure that HSLDA is reporting the truth, go to http://www.un. org/children/ conflict/ keydocuments/ english/theconve ntionont6. html and read the actual document. I did that about 14 years ago. It is very disconcerting. This treaty would strip parents of their rights and give them to the child. Ask the question who will decide what is in the best interest of the child?
The following is taken off the HSLDA website. Please read this and consider the consequences before you vote in this election.
Thank you,
Brenda Dickinson
Oppose the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
After years of debate within the international community, child’s rights activists reached an agreement in 1988 which created a comprehensive charter advancing the agenda of the children’s “liberation” movement. What the child’s rights advocates have for over two decades been unable to accomplish through the normal legislative process, may now be realized in one sweeping blow.
If ratified by the U.S. Senate, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of a Child would undermine families by granting to children a list of radical “rights” which would be primarily enforced against the parents. These new “fundamental” rights would include “the right to privacy,” “the right to freedom of thought and association,” and the right to “freedom of expression.” Such presumptions subvert the authority of parents to exercise important responsibilities toward their children. Under the UN Convention, parental responsibility exists only in so far as parents are willing to further the independent choices of the child.
The Convention Would Become Supreme Law of the Land
Under the Constitution’ s Supremacy Clause of Article VI Section.2, “all treaties made, or which shall be made, under the authority of the United States, shall be the supreme law of the land; and the judges in every state shall be bound thereby, anything in the constitution of laws of any state to the contrary notwithstanding.”
In Missouri v. Holland, (252 U.S. 416), the U.S. Supreme Court held that under the Supremacy Clause a treaty made by the President, with concurrence of two-thirds of the Senate present at the time of voting, would become the supreme law and take precedent over contrary state laws. Thus, the U.N. Convention would constitute legally binding law in all 50 states. Otherwise valid state laws pertaining to education, the family, etc., which conflict with the provisions of the treaty will be subject to invalidation.
Were this convention to be ratified, the United States would be required to alter large portions of long established law to cater to the demands of the United Nations.
The Convention Would Give Children the “Right” to Disregard Parental Authority
Although several of the treaty’s provisions offer generally positive, nonoffensive platitudes, a substantial portion of this charter undermines parental rights. Some of the more relevant provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child are summarized below.
Severe Limitations Placed on the Parents’ Right to Train Their Children
Under Article 13, any attempts to prevent their children from interacting with material parents deem unacceptable is forbidden. Children are vested with a “ freedom of expression” right, which is virtually absolute. No allowance is made for parental guidance. Section 1 declares a child’s right to “seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of the child’s choice.”
In Article 14, children are guaranteed “ freedom of thought, conscience and religion.” Children have a legal right to object to all religious training. Alternatively, children may assert their right against parental objection to participate in the occult.
Article 15 declares “the right of the child to freedom of association.” Parents could be prevented from forbidding their child to associate with people deemed to be objectionable companions. Under Article 15, children could claim a “fundamental” right to join gangs, cults, and racist organizations over parental objection.
The Convention Would Entrench the Right of Teenagers to Abort Their Babies
Under Article 16, the “right to privacy” is granted to children. This UN sanctioned “privacy” would seemingly establish as the child’s right to obtain an abortion without parental notice, the right to purchase and use contraceptives, and the right to pornography in the home.
New Bureaucracies Would Be Created to Monitor Families
Article 19 mandates the creation of an intensive bureaucracy for the purpose of “identification, reporting, referral, investigation, treatment, and follow-up” of parents who, in violation of the child’s rights, treat their children negligently.
To insure State and U.N. control over their development, Article 7 requires all children must be immediately registered at birth.
A Prohibition On Corporal Punishment
Articles 3, 19, 37 require all ratifying countries to protect children from “degrading punishment” and “physical violence” which includes corporal punishment. The U.N. Committee of Ten (pursuant to Article 44) must oversee the implementation of the treaty. Over the last several years, the Committee published reports criticizing several countries (including Canada and Great Britain) for allowing corporal punishment to continue.
Mandatory Outcome Based Education
The American Bar Association’s 1990 publication Children’s Rights in America: U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child Compared to U.S. Law states that Article 29 will force public and private schools in America to adopt “federally prescribed curriculum content.” Each child must be prepared to be a responsible citizen by having “the spirit of understanding, peace, toleration, equity of sexes, and friendship [for] all peoples, ethnic, national and religious groups of indigenous origin.” All children must be taught the principles of the treaty. This is OBE mandated curriculum of the worst sort.
Can the United States Amend the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child?
According to Articles 50 and 51, the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child can only be amended through a four step process. First, at least one-third of the nations must favor a conference even to discuss an amendment. Once a conference is convened, a majority of the nations present at the conference must vote to adopt the amendment. Then it must be submitted to the full General Assembly for approval. If the amendment is approved by the General Assembly, it must be then be accepted by two-thirds of the participating nations. The great difficulty in amending this Treaty is unthinkable. Furthermore, “A reservation incompatible with the object and purpose of the present Convention shall not be permitted.”
Will This Treaty be Enforced in the United States?
Our own Constitution requires us to enforce all treaties as the “supreme law” of the land. Also, Article 4 of the Treaty, makes it clear that the signatory nations are bound to “undertake legislative, administrative, and other measures for the implementation of the rights” specified in the Convention.
Toward this ends, the Convention sets up a committee to review the progress of signatory nations called the Committee on the Rights of the Child (also called the Committee of Ten). Examples of the Committee’s oversight of the various nations which have ratified the Convention, are seen in recent reports called, “Concluding Observations of the Committee on the Rights of the Child.”
In a 1995 report the Committee heavily criticized Britain for not implementing many aspects of the treaty stating
The Committee is deeply worried … regarding judicial interpretations … permitting the reasonable chastisement in case of physical abuse of children within the family context. Thus the Committee is concerned that legislative and other measures relating to the physical integrity of children do not appear compatible with the provisions and principles of the Convention … The Committee is equally concerned that privately funded and managed schools are still permitted to administer corporal punishment to children.
Essentially the Committee is pointing out that spanking, which is still allowed in Britain, is a violation of the treaty.
Regarding Britain’s allowing parents to exclude their children from school (which includes home schooling), the Committee expressed concern that “the right of the child to express his or her opinion is not solicited.”
In 1997, when one of the delgates from Australia argued that the Convention did not specifically forbid spanking, the Committee disagreed stating
[T]he Convention should be interpreted holistically taking into consideration not only its specific provisions, but also the general principals which inspired it.
In other words, the Convention means what the Committee of Ten says it means.
The 1998 report on Japan equally disturbing,
[T]he convention on the Rights of the Child has precedence over domestic legislation and can be invoked before the domestic courts ....
France was evaluated in the 2004 Final Observations of the Committee and, along with a variety of issues, the Committee addressed the area of corporal punishment. They recommend that the State party “expressly prohibit corporal punishment by law in the family, in schools, in institutions and in other childcare settings.” They also recommend “awareness-raising and promotion of positive, non-violent forms of discipline, especially in families.”
These reports further confirm the United Nations belief that all nations who sign the Children’s Convention are obligated to apply its mandates which override the country’s own domestic law. This is a direct usurpation of national sovereignty.

My parents bought a home!!It's with mixed emotions that I relay this news. I'm so happy for them..it's been a very long summer for them. They've been looking for a home since the spring. They've lived on the road in their RV for over 5 years now. It was time to have a home again. Here's where my mixed emotions come in...I'm happy for them, but sad for me. I had so hoped they would live close to us. I know why they chose NY, but my selfish daughter side wanted my folks near me. I know they'll visit...but it's not the same as living here. I'm happy for them to finally have this big question answered. Living in limbo is so hard...we've been there...and stayed there for far too long prior to moving here...and are about to head back into limbo with the perhaps sale of our home....but it is such a wonderful feeling to have that home. To know that decision is made. So, Mom and Dad, I'm happy for you...but make sure you plan on making MANY visits south!! We miss you!!!!! September 11.....We must never forget....
And this is a good reminder today...
And this is a great one too...
Where was I? I was in North Port, FL at a homeschool group meeting. One of the Moms is the wife of a police chief in a neighboring town. He called her and told her to get home NOW. She relayed this message to all of us...so we gathered up our children and headed home. We had no idea what had happened....we sure saw some awful sights on the tv when we got home. I remember sitting there...watching the news coverage..and being in complete shock. I remember seeing the footage of when President Bush was told the news...he was reading to school children at a public school in Sarasota, FL (which was about an hour north of us). I also remember being incredibly thankful that was our president at the time of this attack. What a horrible, horrible tragedy. I realize that other countries suffer these sorts of attacks quite often. And have a huge loss of life due to terrorism. But, this was the first attack on US soil...and it was a hard hit. Let's all remember those who lost their loved ones in this tragedy. There were far too many who lost their husband, their wife, their child, their uncle, their aunt, their grandpa, their grandma, their nephew, their neice, their friend. While I don't want my blog to be a political one...PLEASE ask yourself if this were to happen again..who would you trust to handle it?? I can safely say for me, Obama is not someone I trust.... Another tragedyJust saw an e-mail from Above Rubies....a member of the group suffered a huge loss... They were ready to move from Florida to Ohio...and were showing their home to the renters when their 1-1/2 year old son, Ezekiel, drowned in their pool. Oh, can you imagine the grief? The shock? Being ready for a new chapter in your life and having such a tragedy occur? I tell ya....these types of tragedies just seem to be happening more and more. If this isn't enough to make folks get on their knees and accept Christ, I don't know what will.... Please keep this family in prayer... Ssd, sad news....I have just read about Marsha's son....her 3 year old son drowned in a pond....and my heart is breaking for this family. Suzanne has a post about this... I cannot imagine the grief and sorrow they are experiencing. Is it just me or do these tragedies seem to be coming in record number lately? Wives losing their husbands, husbands losing their wives, parents losing their children....well...not really losing them. They are awaiting their loved ones in Heaven. But, here, now, they are lost to us. Time heals all wounds, or so they say.....I am not so sure...I think the wound just gets a scab over it. Time after time, that scab gets pulled off and the hurt is at the forefront again. Each time the scab grows back...but the wound goes deeper. The only healing balm for this wound is Jesus. He is able to do exceedingly abundantly beyond our expectations. I have no clue how those without Him get through a single day...let alone a tragic event like these. Hug your babies. Hug your Honey. Let go of the little annoyances. Just love each other....and remember that these days are so fleeting. Don't let another day go by without showing your loved ones that you do indeed love them. Time is just too short.... An award!!My friend Julie at Hatfield House (in the city) awarded me with this very thoughtful award. Thanks, Julie!!!
Here are the rules that go along with it: Only 5 people are allowed to receive this award. Let's see....only 5.... 1. Ellen....a friend I met on a message board...and have so enjoyed getting to know her. She lives on the other side of the pond as they say! 2. Misty...an IRL friend of mine whom I just love to pieces!!! 3. Michele...another IRL friend...and an inspiration in her family size and eagerness for more blessings! 4. Beth, a good friend..and one I hope to have forever! 5. Tiffani...another friend from a message board...and one that I treasure!!! I'm off to comment them with their awards!!! iBlackFriday!!Are you a fellow Black Friday shopper?? I know many people don't want to be bothered with getting up so very early the day after Thanksgiving to get the deals...so here's the answer for you! Last year, I found iblackfriday! What a treasure this is..whether you hit the stores or not! What I especially love about this site is that you can see the ads ahead of time. This is great so you can compare the best deals and map out your shopping plan. OR....you can order those items directly and not even leave your warm, cozy home after that huge filling meal the day before (and those late night snacks of turkey sandwiches that we all love!). Here's one that I'll be checking out... my favorite store for a bargain...and the only major retailer in our town.... Wal Mart I'm interested in the Kodak Z710 they have listed for $149. And can't forget the Littlest Pet Shop whirl around playground for only $15! I can already see my Christmas shopping being made so much easier with iBlackFriday!
