My Gramma passed away yesterday. I am
going to Texas for several days, so I won't be around. I wanted to post
a memory of my Granparents here, though. For one thing they both
loved a good joke. They had a great sense of humor, and never judged me
when I was a wild, freakish young lady. (I was a very nice girl until
18 or so) Gramma loved animals and kept critters around. she
and Grampa were very creative- always making something or trying some
new art form, from Indian jewelry to oil painting- they did it all. Grampa who died a few years ago, was a very handsome, tall and lanky redeck. I remember him hugging and laughing. He was great. Gramma was a tiny little redheaded spitfire, with about forty tubes of bright red Coty lipstick in her bathroom cabinet.
After she raised her six children plus many foster children, she
still had the fortitude to let me spend most summers of my young life
with her and Grampa. Grampa helped me catch toads and snakes and let me
keep them. He was my hero. I wish we would have had more years. Cigarettes took them both early.
I can't help thinking how stupid it is to go into debt to get to
the funeral of someone you loved. We should be willing to go into debt
to see them when they are still alive. Well, I'm hoping I will see them both in Glory someday.
*If you have an opportunity to love on your family, to visit them, and
to talk on the phone- do it as often as you can. I will miss Gramma's
phone calls. I will honor her memory and laugh when I remember her
bright red hair and crazy outfits in the 70's. (which she still wore
into the 80's too, much to Grampa's chagrin!) ~*~________________________~*~
