Put on the Whole Armor of God
Ephesians 6: 10-18
"Put on the Whole Armor of God"
There
are 6 pieces of armor God's word tells us to put on in this portion.
Six is the number of man. (that's not neccessarily bad- it just means
it pertains to us)
*Note that the Word tell us, we must put it on.
1)Truth: This is a knowledge of the truth of God's word.
The scripture says "waist belt of truth", or "loins girt about with
truth". The ancient soldier wore a leather belt which held most of the
other pieces of his armor in place. All of our armor hangs on knowing
and believing the truth!
2) The Breastplate of Righteousness:
Represents a holy and moral character of an individual obeying the
truth, thereby living a godly life.(don't you feel more courageous when
you are in the right? When you are living rightly before God and man??)
3) Preparation of the Gospel of Peace:
this enables you to advance against your enemy. The gospel gives the
believer peace, freeing him from anxiety though he faces such a
powerful opponent.
4) The Shield of Faith:
this means taking God at His word, and believing His promises. This
kind of thinking helps elimate doubts imposed by the enemy. (go back to
the belt(truth)- you have to have a knowledge of God's word for this to
be true for you. How can you believe promises you don't know about?!)
Faith comes by knowledge and adherence of the truth.
5) The Helmet of Salvation: Assurance of your salvation, the hope of your salvation, should give you courage for the battles that are inevitable.
6) The Sword of the Spirit, Which is the Word of God:
This comes from the greek word rhema, not logos (which refers to the
Word in whole), but individual portions or selected verses of
scripture. Memorize verses that pertain to your battles and trials.
Quote scripture to your fears, anxiety, depression, and doubts.
*~*_______________________________~*~
Verse 11 says the armor will enable to us STAND against the wiles of
the devil. Look in 2 Cor. 10:4, some of the wiles of the devil
are: Imaginations (ours!), high things (philosophy, science,
evolution,T.V., science fiction, false doctrines, your flesh, areas of
weakness, etc.) The enemy studies us. He knows our habits, etc. and
uses all the gathered information against us. We must be able to stand.
We are more than able in the power of Jesus. We are more than
conquerors through Him. Amen!
