Giving 3 days straight
We sure do know how to stretch out a good thing here. We’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving for 3 days! Can you imagine the leftovers?
The good thing is that I will be contributing to the various meals not making everything for 3 days.
Whew!
Thanksgiving Day will be spent at my parents’ home. I’ll be bringing spoonbread and my famous Triple Fudge Brownies. Mr. Steady will be fixing up his scrumptious Dirty Mashed Potatoes. I think the girls and I may make a loaf of bread too.
The Day After Dinner, as it is now known, is spent with Mr. Steady’s parents. We cherish this quirky tradition as it means we get to spend some great quality time with his parents (it’s a gi-normous family). A few years ago we sucked Mr. Steady’s sister and kids into the tradition- since her hubby is always working that day. Foodwise: we try to keep to serving leftovers- another tradition. Mr. Steady does fry a turkey breast because we just love it. We have leftover mashed potatoes and spoonbread, his mama brings cranberries, a pie and a Jell-O salad. His sister brings her amazing potato rolls and at least one veggie side dish. I laughingly make a boxed stuffing mix to round it all out.
This year my sister and her hubby have invited the family to their home for the Day After After Dinner. [This is the “off year” that my siblings each spend with their in-laws on TG day.] Since this is a first I don’t know what the plan is. I am currently waiting for my sister to inform me of what I am bringing to the event besides myself and 4 other hungry souls.
I have to admit I’m getting a bit antsy as I’m working on my grocery list. I’m a bit of a nervous-ervous. I don’t normally grocery shop during Thanksgiving week. But Mr. Steady and I are hoping for some better sales in the local flyers and so we have put off some of the holiday shopping. Yikes!
We made this week a pantry week so that we could save this week’s grocery money, combine it with next week’s and hopefully stock up on some things.
Still, it makes me feel like I’m waiting until the last minute to get all my ducks in a row . . . .
November 19, 2008
It has once again been a while since I have added anything to my blog! Well so many different things have happened since my last entry.
We have ended the courtship with Nathan. Thankfully we are still able to be friends. This is a blessing, because I still enjoy his friendship. I believe that that is one of the true blessings of courtship, if things do not happen as we want them to we can still be brother and sister in Christ. I don't really know what else to say on the subject except that, we have learned A LOT about courtship, and are now not so blind as to what is coming. I have told my mother that the next time some one is interested in me I do not want to know until my father has gotten to know him.
Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
I would appreciate any prayers for my birth mother who is going into surgery on the third of December. She is going to have a hysterectomy (spelling???) I am praying that she will be able to heal and adjust quickly! I am planning to go visit for Christmas.
Can you believe that Thanksgiving is around the corner? I am sure that the time only goes faster the older you get. When I was younger I felt that it took FOREVER for a year to go by. Now I blink and we are nearing the end of 2008. The Juggler suggested that we make place mats. I think that this could be tons of fun, so I am going to google designs for Thanksgiving place mats. My wonderful...most amazing....lovely....spictacular (thank you mother dearest) mother is giving us next week off of school! I plan to get caught up on Christmas gifts that I am making, and Spanish....some how I got a few weeks behind...:(
I have been reading for the past two weeks
To Kill a Mockingbird By: Harper Lee
I am really enjoying this book, except for the foul language. It is really horrible how people treated others! They surly did not love one another as they did themselves.
Well Little Bear is trying to get into my lap...and I have to put the key board away when her little fingers are in reaching distance....

Coming Back to the Homestead
Well, it's been a very very very long time since I have made a posting on here. But, I hope to get back in the swing of things and create a daily posting from now on. I really like the community of people here and I hope to generate more friends to share the daily musings going on in my nick-of-the-woods.
Like everyone else, I am getting ready for the great Thanksgiving Feast! Yumm! I don't know about you but I like to cook. So, I'm getting the menu ready, making a shopping list, and making early preparations for a wonderful time with my family.

Psalm 111
Praise the Lord.
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who have pleasure in them.
Full of honor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures for ever.
He has caused his wonderful works to be remembered; the Lord is gracious and merciful.
He provides food for those who fear him; he is ever mindful of his covenant.
He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the heritage of the nations.
The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy,
they are established for ever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.
He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant for ever. Holy and terrible is his name!
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;
a good understanding have all those who practice it. His praise endures for ever!

****Update On Morley****
Please check out Forward To The Past for previous post. The note below is from Morley's wife Esther and this couple & their family still need your prayers please - but it would be so good if this wasn't cancer but just inflammation: The note below was posted from Esther yesterday.
Thank you for praying :)
"Update on Morley
I am so tired right now I can hardly keep my eyes open, so I'm off to bed after I post this.
Morley had a biopsy done this morning. The doctor put him under so she could get a 'big chunk' as she said. And she told me, IT MAY NOT BE CANCER! We won't know for sure till we get the test results back, in another week or two, but she said it looks like it's just inflamation. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high, because I know it could still come back as positive, but, I am praising God for even this hope!
She kept Morley in overnight, so I'll have to go back tomorrow and bring him home. I was at the hospital with him all day and part of the night.
It has been hard this past two weeks. But God has been with us and I know the prayers of everybody have helped.

Question, comments, and my experiments
Hi from Down Under,
I'm trying to grow Stevia for the first time this summer, and I can't seem to get the seeds to germinate. Is there any trick to it, do you know, or am I better to try and find a plant at the nursery?
Rachel L from NZ
I did not have success at growing from seed though it was my first try from seed. I did get a sprout but it didn't make it after that. I may have over watered I don't know. They do say that it is hard to grow from seed. What I did is got the plant and grew from the cuttings. I have three new plants from cuttings I could have made a lot more. I put the cuttings in straight permilite till it rooted (saw new leaves grow) and then put them in soil and a little bigger pots.
Hope that helps
huh... I wonder.... a lot to be able to sell.... but what about just for family/homestead use? Thanks for the idea... I think I will look into this as a supplement to honey.
Thank you for your comments and questions. This is my goal to supplement our sugar or sweetner intake with stevia. I am selling and using stevia green powder that you can cook with.
I will be expermenting on ways to use it and the taste. I will try and keep you all up to date on things I try what works and what doesn't.
limeaid with stevia
Right now I am drinking limeaid with stevia. I started to drink just a glass of water with a lime then thought I'd try adding one of my stevia tea bags to it. Not bad though I may try putting the stevia bag in a little bit of hot water and then try adding it to cold glass of lemon water. Kind of like you do with ice tea. I will let you know how that goes
Cinnamon Apple Oatmeal
I tryed the recipe below and it tasted good. I used soy milk next time I will use regular milk to see what it taste like.
Cabin Roof On!!
The cabin roof is finished enough for winter now. Foam insulation and the metal roofing will finish it completely in the spring.
Here it is at the halfway mark:
Isn't it pretty?
I'm glad that the round rafters will be left visible in this cabin (the round rafters here in our house had to be buried inside the ceiling).
Andrew working on the right side:
Roof meets gable end:

Finished!! (A molding strip will run down the peak to cover that little gap.)

Wouldn't she look cute decked out for Christmas?
Psalm 30: 11-12
Thou hast turned my mourning into joy: thou hast loosed my sack, and girded me with gladness. Therefore shall my tongue praise thee and not cease: O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee forever!
As I awakened after a peaceful sleep.. I gave thanks. When I walked into the kitchen and found my babies and Joe greeting me with smiles... I gave thanks... as I prepared breakfast in a beautiful kitchen with electricity... I gave thanks. As we ate our meal, gathered together- all healthy.... I gave thanks. As I sat in my chair with children at my feet and read from His Word...I gave thanks! As my little one prayed and lifted up others he has never met to the Lord and prayed with confidence... I gave thanks. As we went about our chores and worked cheerful... I gave thanks! As I walked the property with my Joe and dreamed of some day plans and Momma and Daddy being here with us.... I gave thanks!
I thank Him for all He has done and continues to do in our lives... He has filled my heart with gladness!!!
With much love,
Mrs. Joseph Wood
P.S. The move has went wonderful! Thank you for all your prayers!!! ! We are all unpacked and getting started on projects to prepare for our new farm animals arrival. We love you dear friends and thank the Lord for you continually! Have a wonderful week as you abide in Him!
Garhett
Dear Garhett,
Thank you for the comments! We enjoyed them so much!
What’s your grade for writing class? How did your Sabbath paper turn out? I need to start working on my assignment, too.
We really wish you could have come with us, as well. The experience here is worth it! Sometimes we wish for a few comforts of home or for food. Mrs. Kirby broke out her hidden stash tonight for supper; Top Ramen and seaweed to go with rice. We really enjoyed that! Oh, I forgot to mention the peanut M & Ms we had for desert. Mmmmm….
Today we painted the church some more today. The job sounds pretty good but using the worst brushes in the world and the grossest paint I can imagine, I had to sing, “Oh Rejoice in the Lord, He makes no mistakes” to keep me cheerful. Then after putting on a clean outfit and washing the one I had worn for a few days, I started to paint in the primer which works a lot better than the paint for the windows, but then it happened!!! I sat on a little puddle of that sticky window paint. My clean skirt has brown splotches on it that won’t clean off. My legs, even after my bucket shower and scrubbing with a bristle brush, I still have the stain that stick to my pants. Dad says I have to wash with gasoline tomorrow.
All in all we are doing great and the little problems we have only make us stronger and gives us memories to laugh about later! Most of all they remind us that heaven is our final home. I really look forward to that every day!
Give your family and my good ol’ bunny, Chip my love. We will see you soon.
Vanessa
Ps. I was only joking about meeting at the Airport with Pizza, but the guys wouldn’t turn you down for an evening of pizza and games when they get back. We will be back the 15th...And yes, we will do what we can for the Xmas program. We don’t have much time and feel very out of practice. Brianna is the only one who practices every day…. She brought a violin… AF
