Maybe Grandma was on to something.

Today as I was busy about my house I begin to think of my dear sweet Grandma.  She went on to be with the Lord over 10 years ago.  She was such an inspiration to me, she was truly a 'woman after God's heart'.   I have sweet memories of her reading the Bible to us.  She would tuck us in at night, and return back to her reading chair.  The house would be all quiet , the only sound as we drifted off to sleep would be Grandma's voice reading from God's holy word.  What a legacy to pass on.

My Grandma worked very hard at keeping her household.  She was rarely  seen just sitting idle. She was frugal with everything she did.  It is about being frugal that I started thinking about today.   I must admit I am hesitant to even put this little story on paper, lest someone was to think I was poking fun at my dear Grandma.   I want to make it very plain I loved my Grandma  If she were here today we would be sitting over a cup of tea, and having a giggle over this very subject.

I find myself always on the lookout for new ways to save money.  Several weeks ago on the board "The Family Homestead"  there was a thread on "What to use the dryer lent for."  Now this thread caught my attention and I read through the postings.  The idea of stuffing the dryer lent into a toliet paper tube , then using it in the fireplace for a firestarter was mentioned.  What a great idea.  I showed it to my dear husband and he thought we ought to give it a try.  We do 20 loads of laundry a week and we have tons of lent to throw away.  I must say I suspect his goal leans more to the idea .....maybe I will remember to clean out the lent trap if I am saving it.   So today, as I cleaned out the lent trap I thought of Grandma and what she would think of me saving the dryer lent for a useful purpose.  I had to chuckle at the thought......she would love it!   We used to tease her if she could find a use for the dryer lent she would save it too.  She saved everything else.....just in case she might need it sometime.

Thank you Grandma Neff.......I miss you.

What a wonderful memory and post of your grandma. Reading about her made me think of my grandmother. I say with the times our grandmothers grew up they had to find ways of saving money. I also said if I could be 1/4 of a woman my grandmother was, I would be a great woman. Grandmas has so much to offer us. I lost my grandma Sept. 4, 2006 and I miss her so. Your grandmother sounded like a great woman. Thank you for posting about her. I enjoyed it. I must have missed the post on dryer lint. It was a good idea about using it to start a fire with. Sheryl

Glad to Meet You

Thank you for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. It is always nice to "meet" a new friend.

I hope that you enjoy blogging. I started my blog back in June, and I soon found it getting out of control. I have had previous problems with "visiting house to house", and the Lord has already dealt with me on that issue. So, when I found that I was once again falling into that "visiting house to house" pattern (via the blog community), I determined to cut way down on the amount of time I spend there. I don't blog here as regularly as I would like, but I know that I am doing what the Lord would have me to do, so that is ok, and I then really enjoy those times that I get back to the blog community.
I enjoyed this post about your grandmother and frugality. My children and I read alot of missionary biographies, and it always amazes me at how little they are able to get by on. That is because they have learned the art of frugality, plus they know the difference between wants and needs....things which your grandmother and mine knew as well. I think there is a huge downside to being as affluent as we are in this country.
Blessings to you...and I've added you to my friends list.

What a Sweet Post

I am so happy for you to have such sweet memories and such a wonderful example of the richness of life!!

My own grandmothers do not know the Lord. One already passed and met Jesus in the hospital before she died, but was a 'modern woman'. Another is a true Women's Libber, but dds are communicating love and God's ways to her, so hopefully, she will respond to the Holy Spirit before it is too late. My other living GM has become so close with us now, again, due to our dds.. but her heart has softened, and God will prevail.
What a special memory for you to cherish!
Many Blessings to you!
