I was playing the piano today after our family had a family hymn sing time and came across this hymn in playing. It's an old favorite that I haven't sung in a long time and speaks to my heart right now. I pray that I may hold and treasure Jesus in my heart. If you're interested in a site that has the tune to this song and also tells who wrote it and all, visit http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/j/t/jtveryth.htm .
Here are the words. If you go to the site above, there are actually 11 more verses to this song that don't make the hymnal!
Jesus, the very thought of Thee
With sweetness fills the breast;
But sweeter far Thy face to see,
And in Thy presence rest.
Nor voice can sing, nor heart can frame,
Nor can the memory find
A sweeter sound than Thy blest Name,
O Savior of mankind!
O hope of every contrite heart,
O joy of all the meek,
To those who fall, how kind Thou art!
How good to those who seek!
But what to those who find? Ah, this
Nor tongue nor pen can show;
The love of Jesus, what it is,
None but His loved ones know.
That was so nice to listen to, I love hymns but can't seem to find old ones to purchase..simple without the loudness of too many instruments.. just voice and piano... Or just voices.. the less noise the better over here!
