I need opinions!!!

Just a quickie this morning, Charlie is bound to wake up any time now...

I am running an informal poll about baby showers.  Some have asked me if I am going to have one, and I say I don't know.  My mom will certainly throw me one.  But my question is this...

How do you feel about women who have more than one or two children who have baby showers?  Not necessarily surprise showers (she has no control over that) but a shower where she supplies the planner with guest list and all and has maybe a gift registry or 2?  I have always loved baby showers and have never thought twice about going to one for a woman with her third or fourth baby.  But I have run into people or read comments online and such along the lines of "It's just greedy to ask people to buy you gifts when you should have baby items already!"

In my own personal situation, expecting my 4th baby...long before I got preggers again I gave away a HUGE amount of stuff to a girl from my church having her first baby.  She is very poor and had no one to give her a shower.  I gave her a changing table, swing, bouncy seat, and ALL the baby clothing Charlie had outgrown, save a few sentimental items.  I reasoned that someone needed these things more than me, I wasn't yet pregnant again, and if I was to become so, God would provide me with the things I need when the time came.

So what do you all think?  Is it okay for me to have a baby shower?  Of course I don't expect someone to buy me a changing table or swing or the really big ticket items, but there is plenty I really do need.  Someone suggested I have a "frozen casserole" shower but I have that part already covered witha huge list of poeple signed up to bring us meals AFTER the baby comes.  Plus, who wants to sit around and unwrap tuna noodle casserole?
 Thanks for your input!

I believe that each and every child should be celebrated. If not a full-fledged shower, at least a tea or get together to celebrate the arrival of the new baby. One of the best things that I have heard of is a covered dish shower where the mother gets to take home meals for her freezer. I am the mother of four. We had three boys first and when we had our daughter. It was like no one really cared because she was our fourth. We ended up having an open house for anyone who wanted to meet her. You many not need as many things but you definitely need the love and support and other help.

I know the general thinking is a shower for the first and after that, people who want to give something can. But I don't really agree with that. I agree with the other comment that each child is special and should be celebrated. I was given a shower with my first, six years later I had my second, I got no shower. With my son, 10 years after the second child, the church gave me a shower. Of course, I didn't live in the same state as I did with my first two. But I believe each child should get a celebration, not necessarily to get the gifts, although they do help. Having kids further apart like you and I do, who keeps things from time to time? I didn't and needed everything new with each child. So I would say have one!!
