My heart on sewing

I have been praying about some changes here for our sewing business.  We have really only been a word of mouth business for the past years.  That has suited us just fine, but I keep thinking that maybe we could help others more if we sort of put ourselves 'out there' a bit more.  Still, with a large family, the sewing is about 3rd or 4th on the list of any importance.

One thing that has been on my heart lately is my pricing.  I hate charging people (goodness, I sound like my husband now!  LOL  He keeps talking himself out of starting his business on his own because he hates to price items!).  I know there are ladies out there offering the same things we are...some are higher priced, some are lower.  Each that I know of from my own personal experience offers wonderful, Godly service and wonderful workmanship.  So why would you buy from one as opposed to another?  Well, maybe recommendations, maybe a better Google location, etc.  I know there are many ladies who simply cannot sew much on their own, or maybe they aren't feeling as proficient in their skills yet.  Many are trying to follow what they find to be a strong calling, a conviction, in their life toward modest dressing and headcovering, yet they aren't able to find anything suitable in their stores locally, or things affordable to them within the restrictions of their budgets.

We have 9 children.  We have a 20 acre homestead that we are basically new to and need to work at continually to bring it up to what it is capable of offering us and The Lord.  We homeschool, with 5 children, sort of 6, in "formal lessons" this year.  We also have a burden to sew when we can for others seeking more conservative clothing and modesty in their lives.  We are striving to move into a more deep stewardship here...that means making our homestead more self-sufficient and God-reliant, such as raising the livestock needed to feed our family and supply other food needs, such as milk and eggs; it means tending to a large garden and working toward a harvest that will sustain our family from season to season; it also means guiding our children in their Walk with The Lord and growing their knowledge and understanding of why we do what we do.  These all take time, and sewing -- sewing is on that list as a true burden of our hearts as well.  Some days we struggle to fit all the important things in, same as any family

Over the next week or so, I will be working on some changes here to the sewing blog, some of which will include re-working some pricing.  We want to do what we can to make conservative, modest dressing affordable to everyone.  I appreciate the wonderful emails we have received already, and for the customers we have had this past year, thank you all so much.  You have each played a part in growing our burden even deeper.

Blessings in The Lord,
Mrs Dewey Smith
