The Homestead Act of 1862
http://lcweb2.loc.gov/ammem/today/may20.html- How blessed these people were. They were probably the hardest workers America has ever seen. Without them, the land would not have been settled. A true testament to the bravery and strength of early settlers.
Bless all who pass this way!

Friday, October 10, 2008 - History is very neat now that I'm an adult. :)
Dear Amanda,
Thank you for sharing the link. I clicked over there to read the main article and enjoyed what I found. I think any lady that headed west with her husband and children had to have been one tough cookie. *smile* The church life was a family thing as was school. Sometimes in the bustle of keeping the home and tending the needs of my own family I think it would be nice to give that western treck a shot. Just to learn a few things, am I tough enough? Would I be a good help mate in that type of a setting? How would I get material to teach the kids different things?
My love for that time period started about ten (or so) years ago when I started reading Janette Oke books. She is a christian fiction author who writes about people heading west and north to Canada. It sonds so nice to take that step out in faith and to know that you really turn to God in all when you are out in the middle of "no where" on your own. Can you immagine the stress the husband must have felt when the crop failed or when the cattle got sick and died? Like I said, pretty tough cookies. *smile*
Thank you for stoping by my blog. Feel free to stop by any time. I enjoy reading yours as well. I found you shortly before starting my own blog and have enjoyed reading your posts. You are in my list of blogs I enjoy in fact. *smile* Take care and remember to pray always.
Sincerely, -me- (Mommy of two little blessings)
