I'm No Shakespeare

I've received many, many emails and messages about this post on comparing.  My dad called me this morning after reading it and said it reminded him of a sonnet by William Shakespeare.  Me and William Shakespeare, that makes sense.  Talk about coming up short!  I looked it up and read it, and, wow, does Shakespeare know how to get his point across- I guess that's why he's Shakespeare and I'm just little ol' Leah Hillman.  Anyway, I wanted to post this because I thought it was just wonderful, and it says what I was trying to say only it will take a lot less time to read :)

Shakespeare's Sonnet #29

 When, in disgrace with fortune and men's eyes,
I all alone beweep my outcast state
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries
And look upon myself and curse my fate,
Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featured like him, like him with friends possess'd,
Desiring this man's art and that man's scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least;
Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,
Haply I think on thee, and then my state,
Like to the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven's gate;
For thy sweet love remember'd such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings.

 Now I'm sure old Bill was not referring to Jesus when he wrote those last six lines, but they so sum up the way I feel about Him.  Thanks, Dad, for reminding me of this beautiful sonnet!
