It's that time again...
Time to divide those perennials that have overstepped their bounds, or need a little room to spread out.
I'm pasting a post I did last fall below:
Have some plants that have really grown and perhaps "overgrown" their space?
Fall is a great time to divide perennial herbs and flowers. If you have some plants that have gotten a bit too big for their "home", dig them up and divide them into a few (or many) smaller plants. You can move some of your divisions to a new planting area, share them with a friend, or even pot and sell them!
If you're dividing an herb like chives, put a little division in a pot and bring it indoors to a sunny windowsill. You'll have fresh herbs to snip and flavor your food all winter long.
The "rule of thumb" for dividing perennials is to do this 4-6 weeks before the first hard frost. I consider this a suggestion, rather than a rule. Of course, in my area we don't have too many hard frosts anyway! In very cold climates, it's recommended that you wait until spring to divide your perennials.
Enjoy Your Fall Gardening!
Blessings,
