Christmas at the Allen household
We had the best Christmas, Matthew showed up after saying that he wouldn't be coming so that brightened my day from the start. Jennifer, Chris and the kids came over too for opening presents in the morning and then we all went over to my sisters house for a late lunch and more presents...
I have tons of pictures to show you all....(don't know what was wrong with the camera or if it was user error , but they aren't very clear)
Matthew standing next to the tree. He is looking more and more like my brother every day, even sounds like him sometimes~

Jennifer,Chris, Dylan and Katie~

Dylan opening presents and some of his toys~

Katie opeing presents and with some of her toys~

Here they are both playing some sort of game on tv~

Here is what Roger got me, tons of sewing machine presser feet, cassette cartridges for thread and a gift card for Joann's, I am so blessed that he knows me so well~

He also got me these two books, both about two of my favorite families~

But this is the most precious present I received, it was in my stocking, it has the gift card in it, but what it said on the outside just made me cry...I love this man more than words~

Here are a few of people opening presents~

This is of me and Roger~

And one of me and Matthew and Jennifer~

We couldn't leave Molly out she got a new toy in her stocking and some treats~

This picture is of my Mom and the grandchildren~

And then this picture is of my Mom and the grandchildren and great~grandchildren

Well there you have it Chrismas 2008. I so enjoy coming and posting here but I will be taking a short break from blogging for a week or two. Plan on coming back right at the beginning of the year. Need to get my home and life in order to be ready for this coming year. Want to spend as much time with Roger as I can and with the rest of the family. I just ordered my old time favorite planner, it's the one made by Amy Knapp and I really like it. I had ordered another one about oh a year ago or so and it was set up differently and it was okay but I just miss this set up. So this next week I will be getting that and filling it out so hopefully this year I won't be forgetting birthday's , anniversaries etc. and I also want it to keep track of my craft things too. I need to start making a list of all I want to get done in 2009, also want to make a realistic goal list for 2009 too. Not really a new year's resolution but just some goals that I would like to work on. I actually have a list of things I want to do differently in my life, areas of my life that I need to put that extra effort into. This is a list I made up about 2 years ago but sadly still need to keep working on every area. So here it is
My New Life~ in 2009
1) Husband~ Give him more respect, Serve him more. Make him feel very special. Be his helpmeet.
2) Children~Pray continually for my children, and grandchildren.
3) Home~ Keep things more organized and clean. Do things daily to keep it presentable
4) Friends~ Keep in touch better, be very open and not judgemental~No putting people down
5)Self~ Take better care of myself, eating better, getting more rest, see dentist and doctor more often when needed instead of putting it off.
6) Family~ (this is talking about my mom and sisters) Try to just "go with the flow" instead of causing problems. Don't let things bother me so much. Be more loving and willing to listen to them more.
7) God~ Make a point of spending more time with God, in prayer and in reading the Bible.
May everyone have a very safe and wonderful New Year...
See you in 2009
Blessings,Joann

The crayon rolls are done!!
I finished up the crayon rolls I was making for Dylan and Katie for stocking stuffers. They turned out real cute...
Here is what the inside looks like(they hold 16 crayons)~

Here is the outside of Dylan's~

Here is the outside of Katie's~

This is what they look like all rolled up~

I used my stove tonight for the first time, strange it doesn't have settings like med or hi it has numbers like 4.2 or 5.5 will take some getting used to but so far I like it.
Got everything put back on the counter top and it looks so nice in there (sorry no pictures). I am on my way out the door right now to do some shopping (grocery) I don't like to shop at all, so I am hoping it will be a real quick trip. Roger is going with me, he doesn't like me being out by myself at night...I don't like it much either...isn't he so sweet???
Tomorrow is my Weight Watchers weigh in, so I will probably be on tomorrow to post my progress (thinking positive here) other than that I am finished with the sewing ~Sorry AmyJo, aren't going to get those pj's done for Katie so I can show them to you..I will post a picture when I do get them done. I just want to enjoy the rest of the days before Christmas..

I have a stove !! I have a stove!!!
Can you tell that I am a little excited
Today's plans kind of went by the wayside. When I got up I started laundry, and then decided to make an unexpected trip to the craft store to get a stencil to put up for a border in the kitchen. Since the stove was pulled out and Roger re-did the grout he also painted over my old checkerboard stenciled border. I was thinking of putting up a wall paper border and well Roger just hates wall paper. I like it but it is certainly not easy to take down or re-do so we decided just this morning to do another stencil. I love green plants but because of my very badly behaved cat can only have a the fake kind. So I got an ivy stencil and did the wall behind were the stove goes. That is all I did today, the rest of the kitchen will have to wait for after Christmas. Since I got that done Roger decided later in the afternoon to go ahead and put the stove in. It should have been pretty easy but the support bar on the back of the stove hit exactly where the outlet was for the stove plug. Thankfully I am blessed to be married to a man who can do everything, including moving an electrical plug. He got that moved and presto I have a wonderful new stove. Roger worked very hard on this stove with having to replace some tile, replace all of the grout, painting the wall and then the actual stove installation, I just love him so much....
The stove and the stenciling turned out real nice, it looks real different in there now and that's only with part of the stenciling done, just wait till it all gets done...
Here are some pictures of the stenciling and the new stove (I really love it!!)
This is the new stove~
This is some of the stenciling~
This is what it looks like looking toward the entry way~

This is what it looks like looking toward the refrigerator (excuse the mess on the refrigerator)~

This is the control panel on the front of the stove~

Now take a good look at the next picture, it's of the inside of the stove~probably the only time it will ever look this clean~

This is the warming drawer~

So there you have it my new stove and the stenciling all in pictures...I just love my new stove and the ivy~

Now I am hoping for a sewing day tomorrow, Roger is going to be going over to his Mom's house for a few hours tomorrow so I can get some sewing done when he is gone...still want to spend some time with him while he is home so I try not to spend too much time on the computer or sewing when he is here.

Our busy weekend...
This weekend was kind of busy. We got the rest of our shopping done, though I am still waiting on one thing I ordered and it should be here by tomorrow.
Friday we took Molly out for a walk around the neighborhood, I am trying to get as much walking in as I can and she just loves to go for walks...here she is all ready to go~

I took a picture of Molly in front of the tree and it isn't the best picture but it did turn out kind of cute~

Saturday and Sunday Roger spent working on re doing the grout on the entire countertop, it turned out so nice. It is now sealed and ready to have the stove put in.
New tile and grout~

New grout~

Stove side of the kitchen with the new grout~

Then Sunday night we went to look at Christmas lights again, I love going and looking at them. Some of the houses go all out. Now I think all of these houses are real neat looking but I don't think I would want my house to be that decorated
here are some of the houses we saw~

This is actually my favorite, very simple and elegant looking~

Today all I plan on doing is laundry and sewing, have lots of both to do...want to finish up Katie's pj's and then sew up the crayon rolls so I have a full day of sewing ahead. Want to be finished up today even if it takes until late tonight so that way I have a couple of days before Christmas to just sit back and relax. Every evening we have been watching at least one Christmas DVD and that has been so much fun, last night we watched Miracle on 34th street(the original b/w version), one of my favorites. I don't know which one we will watch tonight, have quite a few to choose from...hopefully I will be done sewing in time to sit down and enjoy one with my beloved..

Dylan's pj's for Christmas...
I finally finished up Dylan's pj's for Christmas. These I will give him before Christmas so he can wear them between then and now.
Here are some pictures of what they look like~
The shirt part~

The bottoms~

Both of them together~

I now need to get started on Katie's pj's probably tomorrow. The rest of the night tonight is going to be snuggled up with my beloved and watching some shows we have recorded on the DVR...
Roger has a Christmas lunch to go to tomorrow so I may go and visit my Mom for a few hours and do the rest of my shopping. He wasn't sure if he wanted to go or not since he isn't working for them right now. He is self employed but has been working basically for just this one place for over 4 years so even though he is not on their payroll as an employee (he's a subcontracter) he is really part of the team. They are just the way most of the country is right now and there is no work currently for Roger. We both worry about it, because it's hard not too but we also know who is in charge here and it is certainly neither one of us. Things will work out for the good and we will be praising Jesus when it does..We don't plan on this intruding on our Christmas season. We have to focus on what is truly important, God and our families. We are so blessed to have each other but so more blessed to have Jesus in our lives. With him all things are possible.
Hope everyone liked the pictures of the pj's.

Missing old friends....
Yesterday I was starting to miss some of my old friends at the board where I used to post, but it is just still to hurtful for me to return. I actually don't plan on returning at all, but sometimes I get the urge to go and read what they are up to..of course the whole reason I stopped posting was because of one certain person and if I do go and read there I am sure she will be there. No I am not letting anyone steal my joy of posting there because it was not longer a joy for me. I do miss some of the people very much...Some of the people I have been missing are Patty, she has always been nice to me and she is very funny , Deb, she is busy all the time but was always nice, Jill, she is also busy with her two children and her business, but always had time to say hi, Rose, busy with quilting always, she does beautiful work, Brooke, she is always baking up a storm, Becky, she was kind of new but she sure is nice and always nice to me....there have been so many days that I have wanted to go and just see what they are doing...so if any of you read here (don't know if you have the address or not) please leave a comment and let me know how you are doing..I belonged to that board for over 2 years so it's kind of hard to not go there everyday and see what's going on but for me I just can't do it anymore..
Today we are going to run some errands get the rest of the Christmas shopping done maybe I will take my camera with me and put some pictures up later on...
Hope everyone has a good day.
Blessings,Joann

Big trucks, tile work and moving the Christmas tree...
Today was a day full of lots of things going on...
Last night Roger put on the new tile in the kitchen, a few of them were cracked and when we pulled the stove out figured we might as well go ahead and take the bad tiles out and replace them.
Here is what it looked like~

This is what it looks like with the tile on waiting to be grouted~

Then today this is what came to my house ~

And believe it or not we have a stove, it's not damaged and it's the right model # here is a picture of the top of it~

My camera battery died after that one picture so won't get another picture of it until we are ready to put it in. We made the man that brought it wait until we took all of the packaging off and looked at every square inch of it to make sure nothing was wrong. I even opened up both the oven door and warming drawer to make sure they worked and checked to make sure we had all the racks and such. I didn't see any scratches at all. So we are hoping to put it in this weekend. We are just waiting now for the tile to be ready, it needs some time to set up before we want to be messing around it..
I can't believe that I may actually have an oven to cook in and a stove top to use by as early as this weekend. I had figured maybe it wouldn't even be here until after Christmas.. What a blessing that it came now...
Today I also did a deep cleaning in the living room which included moving our Christmas tree. Our living room is rather small and has no good wall space so putting up a tree is an ordeal...I had it up and thought it would be okay where it was, it was kind of behind one of our sofas but it just didn't work out very good there. So today I moved the entire thing...it was a big task and it took some time but I am so pleased with where it is now that it was definately worth it.
Here are a few pictures of the tree and the living room~

Here is one of course of Molly with her new favorite little green ball~

Guess that's all for tonight, tomorrow will be a running around day for me and Roger hoping to get the final things bought for Christmas..

Wednesday is weigh in day...
Not a very good weigh in today, wasn't as dilligent as I should have been about watching what I ate. This weeks weight loss was only .8 pounds and that brings my total to 12.4 pounds lost..at least I am not gaining. This coming week I plan on making a few changes like more working out on the eliptical machine.
Roger is out of work right now and so things are kind of stressful. I am so blessed to have a husband who is money smart so we don't live check to check, we will be okay for a while. Any prayers would be appreciated. We both have faith that work will come and put our trust in the Lord.
I am still working on crafts but just slowly, have Dylan's pj's almost done and then want to get Katies done.
I mailed out my only package that I was mailing this year yesterday along with the rest of my Christmas cards. I still need to pick up a couple of more presents but just haven't gotten to the store yet to get them.
I also moved my Christmas tree today to another location in the living room. I think I like it here much better. I will post some new pictures of it later tonight or tommorrow. I am so tired today, and it's only 5:30pm. I think bedtime will be a little early tonight for me..
Blessings,Joann

Dog coat finally finished...
Yesterday I spent a few hours and finally got Molly's dog coat made. The pattern was real easy to understand and it seemed to go pretty well.
Here is what the inside looks like~

This is the outside~

And here she is modeling it for you~

I also forgot the other day to put up the pictures of the table with the placemats that Veronica sent me. They look so nice on the table~

Today I went and met with my very good friend. We had lunch and just talked and talked, it was so nice. I wish she was staying here longer so we could have more time to just catch up. She brought pictures of her grandchildren and she just knows how much I love to see pictures. I had my camera with me but then forgot to get a picture of us two together...oh well maybe next year.
Tonight Roger, Molly and I went to look at Christmas tree lights, there are a couple of streets in the town just south of us that always decorate a lot and it was just gorgeous...It was nice just spending time with my beloved...I still have a few more gifts to get but don't know yet what I want to get for sure, so probably won't actually shop until sometime this coming week.
Have a very blessed Sunday

I finally have presents under the tree!!
It's been a pretty horrible day here. Woke up with an extreme headache, wanted to go back to sleep but just gave myself a good talking too and stayed up. I got laundry started at 8AM and was able to do 6 loads today. I know that sounds like a lot for just two people, but I did things I don't do everyday. I washed the cloth hanging bags on my laundry sorter, I washed the throws from the living room(which smell somewhat dog like, I wonder why??) I also did every single piece of laundry that I could find. Now we should be set until at least Monday or Tuesday.
Roger had to drive to work today even though the fog was BAD! He called when he got there so at least I know he got there safely.
All I managed to do today was the laundry, but at least all of it was washed dried and folded/hung up and put away. I started a new way of doing laundry a while back and so far it is working good. I used to wash laundry forget about it and then at the end of the day remember that I never put it in the dryer. So I started using a timer so I would remember that I had laundry going, it works great. I also brought laundry from the dryer into the house only to pile it on the couch, sometimes it would sit there for days...Now I take all of our unused hangers in the closet and hang them on my laundry sorter center, when the dryer is finished I take the laundry out and fold what needs to be folded right there and put things on the hangers that need to be hung up. When I come back in the house (my washer and dryer are in our garage) I go directly to our room and hang up and put away all the laundry. This has been such a blessing. No more laundry on the couch...
I took a few pictures of the tree today as I finally got the presents under there.

We also have a little adventurous cat who just loves to chew on the tree (it's artificial). Here he is looking for just the right spot

Here he is just a munching away, oblivious of me standing there watching him do this
He also likes to go hide among the presents and take the bows off.I have tried to keep him out of there but nothing seemed to work. Finally I was at the dollar store the other day and they had these pretty jingle bell ornaments, I picked up a couple of boxes of them and put them on the lower tree branches. Now when Oreo goes wandering under the tree the bells kind of startel him and he leaves.
I have just a few more presents to purchase and I will be done. I am still working on my crafts but they are going slow....what's new..that's how I always do crafts, very slowly.
My very good friend, the one who is visiting from Missouri called this morning and wants to get together Saturday for lunch and maybe go to the mall....I am very excited..I haven't seen her in a little over a year. She is staying at her daughter's house a few minutes away. I find her a blessing in my life, I have known her for over 15 years and she is a true friend...
Blessings to you all...Joann

I am smiling big time today!!
I went to my weigh in at W.W. this morning and even though the weight lost this week was not huge (only 1.8 pds.) it did put me over the 10 pounds lost, my total weight loss after 5 weeks is 11.6 pounds. I am very happy with this program, I can basically eat what I want but have to track the points, so far it is working for me..
Today I plan on working on some pj's for the grandkids, I got the fabric cut out the other day and now just need to sit down and sew them up. I also cut out some fabric for a coat for our dog Molly. I took her and dropped her off at the groomers on the way to W.W. today and she was just shivering in the car..I would like to get that sewn up this week too.
I wrapped all of the gifts I have so far and put them under the tree last night. I have a few gifts that I ordered online so they aren't here yet..
We are still without a stove, don't have a clue as to when it will show up. Right now I don't think it will even be before Christmas!! We are making due with what we have and so far so good.
Hope everyone has a great Wednesday..
Blessings,Joann

My very special gifts from my Christmas swap partner...
Veronica is my Christmas swap partner, she is such a sweet lady and has a wonderful blog Veronica's blog . I wanted to come here and post pictures of all the beautiful things my new friend sent to me. She does some lovely work, everything~and there are lots of things~ is just so pretty.
Here is a picture of a snowman hot chocolate holder and some snowman salt and pepper shakers~

Here is a picture of a tea holder ~ The outside~

The inside~

These placemats look just gorgeous in real life the photo does not do them justice~

She also sent along these wonderful pot holders that match the placemats~

Isn't this pincushion just the most pretty pincushion you have ever seen, I love it! ~

She also was nice enough to send a few quilting things, I didn't have any of these things so that was just wonderful~

I have saved the best for last, she made this adorable little Christmas purse, it is so pretty and I really do love it a lot~

Here is the same purse with the card she included with all of the gifts, she is some special lady~

Here is a picture of everything she sent all together~

I want to send my warmest thanks to Veronica and also to Janet at Wildcraftfarm for hosting the swap. Veronica in case you are reading this, you will be receiving something in the mail soon.
This special person Veronica did such wonderful work on all of the items, the colors are great, the workmanship is wonderful...I will treasure these things always.

Back in the land of the living......
I am finally starting to feel a lot better. This weekend wasn't the best for me, I was going to put up a post on Sunday night but just didn't have the energy. That is one thing I hate about not feeling well, it seems to take forever to get any strength back.
My house is in totaly disaray, will work on it some today but not a lot. Roger went grocery shopping on Friday so at least we have food. Tonight would normally be Pizza night (since it is Monday night football). I usually go and get a pizza but since I started doing the W.W. thing we have been having the Smart ones Pizzas, they certainly aren't the same but hey it is pizza .
I had mentioned in my last post about posting some pictures of my favorite ornaments on our tree, so here are the pictures~sorry some of them are blurry they were taken when I still wasn't feeling well.
This ornament we purchased at a little Christmas shop in Old downtown Folsom, it's a town about 2 1/2 hours from here and the downtown part at Christmas time is all decorated. I can't remember the name of the shop but it is filled with Christmas things, lots of ornaments. They also personalize the ornaments for you as you can see in this photo~

This next one my sister gave to us a few years ago~

This one is from Dylan's first Christmas~

This one was also given to us by my sister at my Bridal shower~

This one is one that Jennifer made when she was in Preschool (about 24 years ago)~

This one is a macaroni one Matthew made when he was in Kindergarten (about 13 years ago)as you can see some of the macaroni has come off, but I still treasure it~

This one is one we picked up after having our dog Molly for a couple of years, we adopted her from a small animal rescue in September 2003~

Hope you enjoyed seeing all the wonderful ornaments that are so close to my heart...
Blessings,Joann

What a horrible day!!
Last night I was going to come back and post about some of my favorite ornaments. I never made it back on, I wasn't feeling too well, today I am not much better. To make matters worse I signed up for this Christmas swap and never heard anything about getting a partner so I figured I wasn't chosen as a partner for anyone. Today the doorbell rings and here I am still in my jammies looking horrible I go out and the mail man had left a package for me...from someone I have never heard of in New Mexico. Then I got to thinking maybe I did get a partner and I didn't know it, so this made me feel even worse. I haven't opened the box as I have nothing to send in return, I didn't work on anything because I thought I didn't get a partner. I think I will just send it back, I don't want the person to have sent me something and get nothing in return....I feel just awful about this.
I have done nothing today except get out of bed long enough to make Roger's lunch and then I layed back down. It's now almost 3pm and I really thought I would be feeling better but I am not. I think I am going to lay on the couch and listen to some Christmas music..
Hope everyone has had a better day than me..
Blessings,Joann

Weight watchers update......
I went in to my weigh in at Weight watchers today thinking I had probably gained weight because of Thanksgiving. Was I suprised when the scale said that I had lost 3.2 pounds, that brings my total to 9.8 pounds and this was my 4th weigh in. It seems to be coming off but it is very hard for me to stick to. Roger is a big help, he is very supportive and encouraging.
I have to get some things done around the house and then will be back later to put a new post up about some of my favorite ornaments on our tree complete with pictures.
Enjoy your day
Blessings,Joann

It's December already????
Tomorrow will be December 1st, where has all the time gone. Seems like it was just summer, now it's almost Christmas.
I am thinking that Monday will be kind of a free day for me, normally I do~ make menus/grocery shopping, but we have changed the day of grocery shopping to Friday mornings. So I need to reconfigure my cleaning schedule a litttle.
We had a not fun time yesterday with our new stove, when they delivered it we looked over the entire box and even opened up part of it to make sure it was the right model. Since we knew we wouldn't be installing it until after Thanksgiving we kept it all boxed up so it would stay nice. Roger took the old one out and we brought the new one in and went to unpack it and the smoothtop cooking surface has a crack in it, it was right at the edge so we didn't see it when we opened it up. Now we are without a stove for a least a week hopefully not much longer than that. I don't like not having a stove but since I have started doing weight watchers maybe this will be one of those blessings in disguise. This past week at my weigh in on Wednesday I had lost a total of 6.6 pounds (this was my third weigh in) it sure seems to come off slowly and I still struggle with being hungry all the time but I am eating much better and I plan on doing it as long as I can.
The rest of the evening tonight I plan on finishing up our cards so that I can mail them tomorrow...
Crafting this week will hopefully include cutting out the pj's for the grandkids. I have put my Christmas stockings on hold for now, I just put our old ones up and I have lots of detailed work to do on the ones I want to make. I don't want to just hurry and throw them together so they will be done for this Christmas.
I have started a Bible Study that I have had for a few years and never got around to doing. It's called "A woman's walk with God" by Elizabeth George it's about the Fruits of the Spirit. The first one she talks about is Love, some of the things I have read so far are real eye openers, I will be sharing with you all any interesting things I come across. I have only read about 40 pages so far but here are a few things that stood out to me...
This is mentioned to be from the author Jerry Bridges~
"To recognize that there is someone I do not love is to say to God, I do not love You enough to love that person."
another excerpt from the book~
But when Jesus calls us to love our enemies and do good to them, He tells us to do good to them "expecting Nothing in return" Luke 6:35
So far I am liking this Bible study quite a bit, it's very interesting and informative.
Hope everyone has a great start to their week...

Our Thanksgiving at home...
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving. We had our family over here for a lunch time meal...Dylan couldn't be here as he was with his Dad this year. Jennifer, Chris and Katie came over and also Matthew. It was so nice to have almost my entire family here for Thanksgiving. The turkey turned out pretty good, it was only the second time I have made my own. We had just the basics, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, corn, stuffing, gravy and rolls. We had NO dessert here, we went over to my Mom's for dessert. I started doing Weight watchers 3 weeks ago on Wednesday so I didn't want the temptation of pumpkin pie in my house. I even sent all the leftovers home with Jennifer except for the Turkey which I have sliced and portioned into so many ounce ziploc bags and then freezed. I forgot to take a picture of the table all set and the food but I did take some of my children and my granddaughter...

After we had our dessert at my mom's we came back home relaxed for a little while and then Roger and I went and seen Four Christmases, it was quite funny. We don't normally go to the show, we prefer to watch movies at home where it's much more comfortable. We had been given movie gift certificates for Christmas about 2 years ago and we had never used them, so we used them last night. We got home around 11pm and we were both exhausted, watched Charlie brown Thanksgiving that we had recorded and I didn't even watch it all because I was so tired, maybe we will finish watching it tonight.
I don't normally go out the day after Thanksgiving for the good sales, but this year I did go to Joann's fabric store. Joann's is one of my favorite places to shop and they had some real good prices..I was there for a few hours, it was real busy but also well worth it.
These are the fabrics that I got today, all of this including 6 fabric quarters, and 1 roll of lace and I only spent $25, not bad..
And also last but not least I did finally get the mini wall hangings done and given to my family on Thanksgiving, I don't want to sound to prideful but I think they turned out really cute.
Mini Wall hanging **Finshed**~
Here are all of them~

Have a very nice weekend
