"...amber waves of grain..."

It's Show and Tell Friday with Mary! Click the graphic!

This was supposed to be a S&T about a NEW BABY! But alas, Christian is not cooperating with us. I came home early from writers conference in Oregon on Tuesday night, because Kristel was (actually is) in labor. Really. After 5 kids, one knows these things. And #6 we figured would go fast. So I hurried home. She's STILL in labor (but the eggplant at Olive Garden should speed things up....today). I don't know how she manages to care for 5 little kids between contractions. This is the weirdest thing I've ever seen. She finally sent Sean back to work yesterday and today. Ridiculous! She says she's not going back to that hospital until she's ready to push. (Big talker). But after 3 times for being checked and no progress, she's humiliated into the dust....

So today I'm going to give you an update on our trial wheat plot. For sure next week I'll have baby pictures? The wheat is golden, but not quite ready for harvest. (compare with the green wheat 2 entries down).

And an added bonus: who would think a picture of a power pole would be fun to share. But after 10 years, the PUD finally brought power up the forest service road and we nabbed it!

Here is our new firewood storage. I stacked the wood in the two pallets farthest away, (only one pallet is split). The rounds are waiting to be split (with the retirement present of a hydrolic log splitter). DH had to cut down (actually PULL down) a bunch of trees to clear a spot for the pole barn.

How would you like to BURN these stumps? I feel for the pioneers, who did not have a 4X4 pickup and a chain saw to remove stumps. Back-breaking labor. And they take FOREVER to burn. And I can only burn in the spring, before fire danger. I'll be burning for years!

The place looks great!! It's really starting to shape up!

I'm not sure how the pioneers did it!! And we complain about the 'hard work' we have to do!!

Can't wait for baby pics!! he he

Thanks for sharing,
Robyn

How exciting !!! We are finally hooked up to the electric poll recently . We are no longer piggybacking to my MIL. If all goes well I will be updating about ...The House That God Built tomorrow. I have been saying this for a couple weeks but I am going to make myself this week end.

I am trying to be in a anit- procrastination mode.

Blessings and ((HUGS)) my SSiC

Well, babies have a way of making their own time. I feel for her though. My last baby was my longest and hardest. Not supposed to be that way! I love the updates on your homestead. That wheat is looking great. And all that wood! Wow you guys have been busy. Have a terrific week.

Wow, you've been busy! We need to get our wood supply back up and soon. (Can't believe that summer is nearly over--it's been a blur!) I've been spending almost all of my time in the gardens and kitchen preserving the harvest. I'm sure we'll appreciate it this summer.

I can't wait for news of the new baby (praying for a quick delivery) and I can't wait to read Andi's latest adventure. I'm so excited about Gracie's appearance on the cover! :-)

Wow - you are getting lots done around your place! Look like that pile of limbs will take a bit to burn... we burn all the time around here.. one of the blessings of farm life is no burn ban in these parts. ( we are in the midwest)

Blessings,
gloria

I just love seeing your progress on your homestead! Your wood reminds me of my childhood - we had a wood-burning furnace and woodstove for our only heat, and we spent many summer/fall weekends gathering wood for the winter. What a wonderful trip down memory lane this morning - thank you!

Have a lovely weekend, and our prayers go out to Kristel and the baby! Hopefully soon!!! :)

Your wheat has turned so fast! And that is a great firewood set-up you have. I read some books by Helen Hoover, including "A Place in the Woods" and it reminds me of your place.

So has the baby come yet? That is a lot of work that needs to be done. It looks like you are doing a good job. :)

You have a lot in common with Mary at Canada Girl. Clearing a spot on a mountain and doing the things we alll take for granted -like getting electricity. You must really crave privacy!!!!!!

We did have our grandbaby come this weekend - my 4th grandchild!

Musings of a frustrated former small-town "farm" wife, who's waiting on pins and needles to "get outta town" and back to the country life. We have 14 acres on a mountain in North Central Washington state, where we plan to move and establish a homestead in the middle of nowhere.
