Egg identification help needed!!

Posted in On The Farm

Ok Mom and I are fully confused. We've been getting Goose eggs since the 16th, as of today we have 12 of them. And 3 Duck eggs.

Well mom got today's egg then when she went to add more hay for them there was yet another egg but MUCH larger.

Left egg from today, middle egg was what we were saying were goose eggs, and the right egg was what we assumed was a duck egg.

Does anyone have any idea or an idea where I can find out.

The largest is also heavier then the others.

We have 3 geese, two of them are larger and yellow/white and are all up in your face,we assume they are both male as they are a bit more aggressive. And one darker goose that we assume is the female.

We have 4 ducks, 1 yellow/white, 1 yellowish with black, 1 brown one and 1 black one with a greenish shine to the head.

They were gotten from a straight run mix, so I have no idea what they are and can't get photos of them at this time, hopefully next month or so I can.

March 26, 2008 - All goose eggs . . .

I think. Chickens/geese/ducks are funny birds. They start off with smaller eggs and the eggs gradually get bigger, just as you are seeing. Not always, but most of the time. I have an egg scale and my husband and I weighed each dozen of eggs after we get them from my parents to watch them grow last fall but after a while it levels off. :)

The first eggs my mom gets from her chickens are just bigger than a thimble but they rapidly get larger. I think it must be easier on the birds.

The duck eggs I have been around look more like chicken eggs except are a bit thinner than chicken eggs. Those are all "fat" looking in the middle and are identical - so I would be pretty sure they are all goose eggs. The biggest is about as slender as goose eggs get and my guess is that they won't change much from there.

Just my two cents. :)

The ones in the middle were first, the ones on the right came WAY afterwards.....lol. So they didn't start smaller and get larger.

I have 8 hens, all the same age and breed. They lay daily and all of the eggs are always different sizes. The first eggs are usually smaller at first then progressively get bigger as the bird develops into a routine laying habbit. The two on the left are both probably goose eggs and the ducks eggs are usually greenish in color. (I may be wrong, but all the ducks we've ever had were.) HOpe you figure things out. Good luck..........Kitty

Yes they are a greenish color. At least the 3 eggs we assumed were duck eggs....lol. Course I can't get that to show up in a photo.

Also all 3 of these eggs were from today. So 3 birds laid eggs. We just figured we only had 1 female goose since the other 2 are so aggressive.

I would assume that the large egg is either a goose egg or a duck egg. Our ducks were laying very large eggs.
Good luck, post and let us know!

I like the way you have done your site, very pretty. As far as the eggs, your guess is as good as mine.
