Getting geared up for FallHere is a fun blog to get you going on Fall-cleaning and decorating. How To Organize The PantryFrom: http://www.countrymom.com
Take a look at your pantry shelves. Is everything jumbled up and stuck anywhere it will fit? Can you easily find what you need? You need to organize your pantry! 1. The first thing to do is take everything out. While you are unloading onto the counter, try to place like things together. 2. Make sure to check dates on your food and throw out what has gone bad or past freshness date. 3. Clean and scrub pantry shelves. Replace shelf paper. Restocking Your Pantry: When organizing your pantry it is a good idea to always keep like items / food together. For instance: * all canned vegetables together 1. Place things you rarely use on the top shelf. (or taller items) 2. Place the items you use the most at eye level. 3. Place items that you use less frequently at the bottom 4. We place extra items that we keep on store such as catsup, salad dressing, salt, jams, peanut butter, etc on the bottom shelves. Then when we run out, we know just where to look. 5. Keep a pad and paper in the pantry to mark when you get something out of your stored items or are running low on something - if you keep track, you will have a ready made grocery list. 6. If you have room on the inside of your pantry door - install coated wire shelves. These small shelves are great storing for soup mixes, spices, extracts, candy sprinkles for cakes, etc. Remember that everyone places different things in their pantry - place your grouped items in a way that makes sense to you and how you live. When you unload your grocery sacks, remember to put things together and back in the right place - then it will be easy to keep your pantry organized all of the time!! Do you like to decorate?
(my FlyLady inspired shiney sink) I love looking for ideas for home decorating, and I found a very fun site while surfing my favorite blogs. http://ratemyspace.hgtv.com/SNC/Main.aspx?&pguid=6db6be3f-1720-4ba3-a081-999042c09b6b It is called Rate My Space.....check it out! Free On-line Christian Homeschool MagThis looks like a great homeschool resource! Housekeeping TodayToday I am convicted to work on my home, I have been wasting a lot of time the past few days. I was inspired by visiting a few of my favorite blogs to do some de-cluttering http://www.proverbs14verse1.blogspot.com/ .
And also doing some of the 'Making Your Home a Haven' challenges: http://www.biblicalwomanhoodonline.com/blog.htm
It is a good time to go through the kids rooms getting rid of toys that are no longer played with. It is true that children are better off with less toys and a clutter-free room. They will actually play with their toys more when they have less stuff. I have a son with asthma and he does much better when his room is clean and easily vacuumed and dusted. Clutter is unhealthy mentally and physically!
My goal for today is to catch up on my laundry and to start working on the boys rooms, I think I will go through their dressers first. It is amazing the things that they stuff in there!
Happy cleaning!
Budget Fall Decor
Here are some fun decorating ideas for Fall, from
The Cheapest Re-model of Them All!We recently re-modeled our kitchen and did a large additon on the house. It is a blessing from God and because of my husbands very hard work! But you don't always need to do a huge re-model to change how you feel about your home. This is an excellent article from FlyLady www.flylady.net she is very encouraging and I love her no-self-pity attitude. She is encouraging to me and many others. I especially love that she looks at household chores as a home blessing and not work. Dear Friends, De-cluttering Week 4: KitchenOK, this week is supposed to be the week to work on de-cluttering the kitchen. Have I done it? NO.....Why? Because I still haven't finished my master bedroom closet! I am not listening to FlyLady when she says, "Don't try to catch up, just jump in where you are!" So in light of that I am going to de-clutter my kitchen, and I will post pics of it AND my new living room that I was supposed to post earlier. Go ME!
De-cluttering Week 3: Living Room and Family RoomWell, I confess, I still haven't finished with week two, de-cluttering my bedroom closet!
Thankfully my living room and family room are already de-cluttered, so I can start deep cleaning them.
I need to wash some curtains, and thoroughly clean the sliding glass doors and trim. It is amazing how much dust accumulates on the base boards and door trim! I also need to get out 'Webster' and tackle the cobwebs that seem to appear overnight. Hopefully I will be able to post some pictures tomorrow.
De-Cluttering Week 2: Master BedroomThis weeks FlyLady Zone is the master bedroom. So, that is where I will be de-cluttering this week. I will be going through the dresser, bookshelf and closet. The closet will definitely be the hardest. Since we moved into our new master bedroom (part of our new addition), I have tossed a bunch of stuff in boxes and just put the boxes in the closet. I need to go through it all, especially since one of the boxes has all of our business receipts and paperwork that I need to do taxes (blah).
I will post pics of my accomplishments, if and when I have them! :)
De-cluttered Main Bathroom
I also cleaned out all six drawers! But I will spare you from pics of those....lol
Now since I have de-cluttered I can deep clean it! De-Cluttering Week One: BathroomsSeems it is de-cluttering time for a lot of people. FlyLady says to de-clutter BEFORE you clean. You can't organize clutter!
So in preparation for 'Spring Cleaning' (which I really do look forward to!) I am going to stat de-cluttering room by room. Starting today I am decluttering a room a week, going by FlyLady's Zones. This week is the main bathroom and laundry room. I started by going through our medicines and discarding expired meds.
Hopefully I will have time today to finish the bathroom, and de-clutter my sons bathroom. I do not need to de-clutter my laundry room because since it is brand new and doesn't have cupboards or shelves yet I haven't been able to clutter it up!
I will try and post pics of my progress.

A Fun BookI received the coolest book from my very good friend for my birthday last month. It is called, Mrs. Beeton's Book of Household Management. It was published in 1859. Isabella Beeton was born in London in 1836, the daughter of a dry-goods trader. She married in 1857 to a publisher, she wrote columns on cooking and fashion, and began work on the book in 1857. She had four children, two who died during infancy, and at the young age of 28 she died of an infection contracted during the delivery of her fourth child.
I am amazed at the amount of information in her book, and how differently they lived back then! Also how well informed she was at such a young age!
It is meant for the Victorian middle-class in Europe, and instructs on everything from fashion, child-care, and the management of servants, to cooking all kinds of dishes, it has many recipes, some things strange and that I have never heard of!
Anyway, it is a very entertaining book! It is out of print, but can be purchased through Oxford World's Classics.

QuestionWhy can't they make placemats out of material that doesn't shrink when you wash & dry it???!!!!! Books on OrganizingI love fall, it is something about the air that I like so much. It is also a great time for decluttering and organizing and getting ready for the holiday season. Here are some of my favorite organizing books:
Sink Reflections by Marla Cilley - The FlyLady (this is the best!)
Simple Secrets to a Beautiful Home by Emilie Barnes
The Spiritual Art of Being Organized by Claire Josefine (not a Christian book)
Organizing from the Inside Out by Julie Morgenstern
Something to RememberDetermine never to be idle. No person will have occasion to complain of the want of time who never loses any. It is wonderful how much can be done if we are always doing.- -- Thomas Jefferson advising his daughter Martha, 1787. FlyLady's 11 Commandmentswww.flylady.net1. Keep your sink clean and shiny! 2. Do your Before Bedtime Routine EVERY NIGHT 3. Do your Morning routine EVERY DAY, RIGHT WHEN YOU GET UP. 4. Don't allow yourself to be sidetracked by the computer 5. Pick up after yourself. IF YOU GET IT OUT, PUT IT AWAY WHEN FINISHED 6. Don't try to do two projects at once. ONE JOB AT A TIME. 7. Do something for yourself everyday, maybe even every morning and night. 8. Work as fast as you can to get a job done. This will give you more time to play later. 9. Smile even when you don't feel like it. It is contagious. 10. Make your mind up to be happy and you will be. 11. Pamper yourself, you deserve it. Just in case you forgot these. Post them on your refrigerator where you will see them. frugalityAnother glorious sunshining day!
I have limited myself to an hour on-line, which at this time I am 34 minutes OVER! So I will make this short.
I just want to say how inspired my friend Patti has made me to be more frugal with our money. http://www.homesteadblogger.com/CollinsCountry/
A lot of times we spend on such frivolous stuff! We waste on eating out.
We also commit to things that cost money, or agree to do something, that while it may be a blessing to someone else, is may be hurting the financial health of our family. I think it is important to weigh what is more important. Find ways to bless someone that doesn't cost money, but maybe our time and effort instead.
Stop using credit cards! This is important: If you can't afford to pay cash, then you can't afford it. We had to learn this the hard way.
The only exception to debt would be a home loan, and car loans, as long as you can afford the monthly payments and they aren't causing you to not pay other bills.
Anyway, I could go on and on, but I am learning to really stop and think about what I am spending my money on. Can I afford it? Is it really something I LOVE? Do we NEED it?
One of the BEST ways to save money is in the food department, and the best way to save is to plan your menus in advance and STICK to the list!
Also less driving. Our gas is 3.49-3.79 a gallon, so a lot of money is saved when NOT driving!
OK, I better stop, I can go on and on. Anyway, I am just talking myself into being a better steward of my money. I encourage everyone else to also.
